I'm trying to hook the game with Textractor to machine translate but the hook keeps changing ... I just want to play

im not all that familiar with textractor, but the way this game stores its texts is rather...... peculiar, which probably explains why automated programs attempting to track it are getting trolled.
theres several archives of data on which both contain files of text, the text format itself has several possible variants of how it is stored,
and there's no inherent logic on whether the first or the second arcive is being used for reading out texts for any given scenario in the game.

the mapping that lays out the events of the game (what happens when you talk to a npc, etc etc.) quite specifically define an action for every single text box,
including the formatting of the box and all the associated information that comes with it (portrait image?)

also, machine translations dont really do a too great of a job with zill, the script is written in a way that just screws you over a lot. (I've attempted to machine translate the whole game a long time ago already, it's garbage.)

I'm using DeepL to translate (It's about the only thing that do a good job with machine translating Japanese) and it's doing a really good job of translating the game. It messes up the pronouns but you would understand what's going on and 80% of the sentences are easily understood. Like I understand the lore just by reading the translations so it's very passable for me at least.

These are what I'm doing, as you can see. It's very easy to understand like most of the game runs smooth like this.

if it suits you then by all means go for it.

but yeah, probably not much i can do about the texthooks, the game is a mess as far as programming goes, so this doesnt surprise me the very least honestly.

Hi you can consider using the following requires retroarch but there are tutorials online for all of it

demonstration here:

setting up ppsspp in retroarch:

setting up translation in retroarch tutorial:

was looking for a solution and found this thread and this video approach above and wanted to pay it forward. Hopefully this will help and consider supporting the guy on his site/patreon. This potentially works for anygame!!

not sure if the links above were posted correctly because of my newbie restriction....but if you google Retroarch AI project you will get it, also if you are willing to sign up for a google api key (requires a card but no payment once you don't over use it...) you can google the Universal Game Translator (UGT) which is waaay easier to setup, you can combine it with Deepl translator api (recommended but you also need to sign up for that) for the best translation

oh btw link
codedojo.co m/?p=2426

(separate the space above to get the link)
UGT doesn't need retroarch so can work with any game out of the box emulated or not.

on the department of progress, a large chunk of the visual bugs have been patched off (numerical strings now alingn correctly mostly everywhere.)

biography menu finally actually works after 200 times of "fixing it",
character creator name input actually works now (it crashes when typing japanese, the possibility to type japanese will be removed from the final patch.)

scripts were also updated and are being worked on as we speak. no estimates, the game's a mess lol.

i realize i havent really updated the thread much, and im probably not going to do so in the future either... we'll see.
it'll continue to be worked on until it's done, unless othervise stated, regardless of how much i post or dont post about it.
there really isnt much to say, at this point im just nitpicking over the UI while the script gets worked on.

I wish I could help out on this, but all I can do for now is off my support. I can't wait for this, but I will be patient and understanding since this is a big project to do. Try not to overwork yourself and I will appreciate all the work you're doing on this!

    Thanks mate.

I used to drink alcohol fairly often. Never to the point of it being a problem, but like 2-3 beers with dinner each night, or a few cocktails or glasses of Scotch or something. Started smoking/vaping weed a lot a few years back which killed 90% of my interest in booze. Now I stopped smoking/vaping weed as much and just deal with life the boring way most of the time

I only drank alcohol once and it was by accident
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
I didnt know it was beer, it was on a juice bottle
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Yeah, I'm addicted to smoking, sadly. It's very addictive but I wish I didn't start.

May just order a 5700g for a nas/emulation set up tbh

@SylverReZ, you played that Mario flash game called Mario 63?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, No, but I've seen it on Vinesauce's stream.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, that game is one of the reasons i met newgrounds bc the full versión of it is in that site
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    Also somebody is remaking it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, the other game where I found newgrounds is new york shark

Spoke to Tom Fulp the other day, if he can find his old Newgrounds site content like the mini Flash animations from the 2000's that played on the portal.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
So far no response, but he did say that he'll find them. Wayback Machine doesn't have em.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, atleast the 1999 versión of pico's school is avaliable (the difference between it, the 2006 versión and the 2016 versión is that the speed of the game depends of the speed of your computer and that it had the og soundtrack)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Another being Pico VS Bear, the original 1999 version before Jim Henson filed a DMCA takedown.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
The 2006 versión was made when the flash portal was made
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Many people thought it was lost, but was discovered that he hid it on the same page.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, although the "secrets" system where the game was has been removed. Also pico vs uberkids had a netplay versión that was shutdown, although the swf file has been found
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, Nope. There are two download buttons on the same page, where you can download the original under a file called "bear.exe". "bear2.exe", however, is the updated game in a Flash projector. P.s. this was on the archived Pico page from 2000.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Xdqwerty, That's been there for a long time, too. People who search for lost media don't look hard enough lmao.

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@SylverReZ, also the pico 2 demos used to be only for the newgrounds patrons but they are on internet archive too (https://archive.org/download/picos_school_2)
