I can now play from the beginning of the game all the way to the end credits in English with no crashes or a single word of Japanese spoken by any characters, even Townspeople

Let it go on the record that I translated a JRPG into English by myself in 10 weeks from start to finish

And it was my first time translating, AND my first time touching game files

Encountered a bug during testing that was present in the original version of the game as well. (as in, it's documented in old Japanese forums) Leaving the game on for an extended period of time without closing it and opening it again (in this case it was like ~12 hours) can sometimes result in the game losing it's ability to save until it's powered back on again.

Moral of the story: use in-game saves, and don't leave it on for ages

Thought it'd be worth bringing up before I release anything, since it might be easy to spend that long playing if you're really excited to play. Would hate for anyone to lose their save data!

Also I have no idea if loading from a save state "resets" this timer or not, so please, use in-game saves and only use save states for little things (like cheating the rng etc) if your heart so desires

I've been coding a lot.. working on a big breakthrough, hopefully it works! (if you look in the top right, you'll see I have a LOT LOT LOT LOT of VBA code for this project... and yes it's all for this one game

Man if I was just a translator with no coding skills I would be f***ed
And if I was just a coder with no translation skills I would be equally f***ed
And if I didn't love Zoids this much I'd have given up ages ago
I guess I'm damned for having no coding skill and start from zero without understanding what to do even though I have a bit of translating skill for Japanese as beginner who keep learning and understanding the language. I shouldn't have planned to do project since I have no coding skill at all

I don't think a beginner level of Japanese is anywhere close to enough for a game like this. You'd be hard pressed to translate 95% of things properly and in a fast manner. Google translate does absolutely not cut it in any way shape or form for JP->ENG, the languages are far, far too different

As for coding skills, nothing is stopping anyone from learning. I didn't know VBA or even how to use a hex editor 2 months ago. You just have to have the will to keep going and not give up

holy smokes. I just watched the history of zoids franchise in yt and stumbled upon this. you did do this by yourself? I'm impressed someone finally does a zoids game. I wish I could donate via ko-fi but I don't have any international payment method. good luck with this project I hope it succeeds.

A few more things for me to do. I've got someone playtesting, so once they're done, I just have to fix a few typos here and there and I'll be releasing a beta build. This coming week is hectic for me in terms of Uni work so I may not get around to it, but I'll definitely have a public release out this month

Good news everyone! I've submitted my translation patch to romhacking.net and it's awaiting authorization. It says it should be available to download in the next 24 to 72 hours! If you have an account there you should be able to see the patch sitting in the queue at https://www.romhacking.net/submissions/QueueStatus/

I'm so excited for you to all play what I've poured my heart and soul into for the past few months!

$60 for a game that's a decade old might be unheard of on PC but actually is not uncommon on consoles

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
especially Nintendo because they only ever lower the price of games when they do a greatest hits/platinum hits/players choice re-release
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@The Real Jdbye, and the HD collections released for 7th gen consoles too
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but they don't seem to have done any of those for the switch yet and maybe never will
