Beatrice is right, they have gone back to turn based and added things to it.

+1, What is wrong with the goddamn battle system? TURN BASED ROCKS!

Just wanted to point out that from the countless reviews and such that I've seen for this game, almost everyone says that the battle system is closer to FF X-2 than anything else. Which, in my book, is a really good thing. (That's pretty much the only thing FF X-2 did right, lol)
