Nintendos Response to my project

I sent nintendo this e-mail about the magnetic fields from the DS Lite

Dear Nintendo
I am contacting you with the speakers on your nintendo lite system. They have very high readings, can you explain to me about why they are so high ?

Thank you Frank

They sent me this back

Dear Frank, thank you for your e-mail.

Can you please advise me on what scale you are making your measurements and against what criteria you are making the comparisons? I would also like to know your thoughts on why you consider them to be high.

Kind regards,

Your Nintendo Team

I then sent them this back as a reply

Dear Nintendo team

I am doing this for a project to go to the BT young scientist competitions. I took all reading on the milliTesla (mT) Scale at which it came out to be 5.5 mT. The readings were taken with a Vernier lab quest and a Vernier magnetic field sensor. It was compared to the Earths natural magnetic field which is .423 mT. I think it is the speaker it self as i opened my DS Lite and diconnnected the power from one speaker, when i turned it back on and powered up the system, they both gave out the same readings, this is why i think it is the speaker it self what is the problem.

Regards Frank.

What do you think of their response ?

Comments

Er, what's the problem here and why did you e-mail Nintendo about it?

Also, pics of e-mail or it didn't happen.

G
I needed to e-mail them so they know i am doing a project about their console before i could to it.

;___; still want to know the problem.
I can't even understand what it's all about in the email.

Heh, they probably know their product inside and out. Kinda funny how they're playing dumb right now. It'll be interesting to see if they try to disprove you.

Umm. Did you take the built in magnet into account in your reading ? You know, the one that makes DS recognize it's in "sleep mode".

Maybe if they're next reply is fobbing you off a bit try getting comebody to proof read your e-mail before you sned it. Your grammar gets a bit iffy and might result in them not taking you seriously (though your rather techy content should put them off that)

Sorry...I am a grammar nazi...

Surely the magnet doesn't need to be that strong? A compass needle can tell where north is from a .423mT reading so why should a magnet sensor sensing when a magnet is really close need a 5.5mT reading?

True that.

I doubt they're playing dumb, they probably had no idea what the original email was talking about.

Unless there's more to that email, I would probably wonder what the hell he was talking about too. They probably didn't know what kind of readings he was talking about.

Agreed. The "very high readings" reads kind of like "dangerous" or maybe "potetnially hazardous to your health," so no wonder they wanted to know more. You should have explained what your project was about in the first place.

Have you tried comparing them to other speakers? Earbuds? Refrigerator magnets?

No, i did not know anything about this "sleep mode", but surley it does not need to be that high for it to work.

?? confused, but thanks i am dyslexic, thats what i am thinking it is too strong.

Yes i have it is 5.5 mT, speakers on the side of my Nokia 6234 are 1.87 mT, Ipod headphones are 1.3 mT, refrigerator magnets are about 2.3mT

Are you taking measurments for various magnets from a same distance?

Yes all the measurments are taken from having the sensor up against the magnet or object being read.

Yeah...should've proof-read it myself XD I suck.

(which may account for the higher reading).

(About sleep mode; the switch that turns the DS screens off when the lid is closed is activated by a magnet, which is located in/behind the right speaker. Search for "DS magnet" on Youtube, there's a few videos showing where the switch is.)

They don't care if he takes it apart. They already have his money and if he sends it to them for repair they're gonna get more money from him.

Nintendo wins no matter what.

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
