uTorrent 3.0 BETA

the new utorrent beta is complete shit. they have added streaming for vids and music, which i do not understand why a download app needs a streaming feature. they added a drag/drop file upload, which i guess is OK but i never had an issue making a torrent, adding my tracker, and then using that torrent. they removed all of the important information from the top, information such as seeders, peers, upload speed, ratio, status, etc. they instead added a new fields like the ability to "label" the torrent (why?) and a health bar that showed 3/4 bars when i was getting 1kb/s on a torrent (LOL??).

needless to say i quickly downgraded back to 2.2.1. i won't upgrade again if it stays this way and that really upsets me.

[quote name='this sums it up']i really hope i don't upgrade one day and find a utorrent that streams youtube, connects to facebook, burns dvds, and emulates nintendo roms.[/quote]

anyone who used 3.0 and hates it, please voice your complaints on the official forum: http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=98500&p=1

This beta is optional yes?

EDIT: Reading the feature list, the only real thing i like is the portable mode

Sounds pretty terrible. I always reject updates every time uTorrent starts, lol.

Does it stream videos/music you're downloading? Cuz that's kinda cool...but still completely useless.

The question is, is this the default layout (The default layout changed pretty significantly in 2.2 I believe) or is this an actual removal of features?

[quote name='Another World' post='3602787' date='Apr 20 2011, 11:57 PM']and a health bar that showed 3/4 bars when i was getting 1kb/s on a torrent (LOL??).[/quote]Health =/= Speed
Seeds:Peers ratio determines the health of a torrent.
There could be 10,000 seeds and 0 leechers (absolute ideal and unrealistic), but if there's a problem with your connection or you are unable to connect to those peers (sometimes your settings, sometimes their settings, sometimes your ISP, sometimes their ISP) you're not going to get a high speed.

I fully admit that uTorrent is and has been suffering from more and more useless bloat ever since it was bought/adopted by the mainline BitTorrent people, but much of it seems to be from people overreacting... much like the people who screamed and cried that uTorrent would be reporting user information to the RIAA and MPAA and other such organizations (which never happened).

Case in point:
uTorrent v2.04 = 320KB
uTorrent v2.21 = 390KB
uTorrent v3.0b = 536KB

And yeah... just tried out 3.0... Absolute shit.
You CAN get everything back to looking like 1.x/2.x, but it's just more work.
It seems their focus is on adding flash and flare to the client which was supposed to be minimal in all aspects while being fully functional.

ALL versions are "optional", unless your tracker blacklists older clients/whitelists the newest.

I hate to sound paranoid after I just made an issue over paranoid people, but I just found this after trying to restore my settings (which 3.0 trashed):
Code:
Thu Apr 21 00:09:47 2011
: -------------- Let the install BEGIN! -------------
Thu Apr 21 00:09:47 2011
: V8 bundle: Failed to get bundle offset

Thu Apr 21 00:09:48 2011
: -------------- Let the install BEGIN! -------------
Thu Apr 21 00:09:48 2011
: V8 bundle: Failed to get bundle offset

Thu Apr 21 00:09:52 2011
: -------------- Let the install BEGIN! -------------
Thu Apr 21 00:09:52 2011
: V8 bundle: Failed to get bundle offset

This isn't the first time uTorrent's added something that isn't made clear, like:
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\apps\3609FC884502A1DF0AA5D9D160C827BB1BD51FC9.btapp
C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\uTorrent\apps\DADC6E156485529178AD96DD503321DE39C1BED5.btapp

Right-clicking on the Labels bar will give you the option to add back important display info like Seeds, Peers, DL Speed, UL Speed, etc.

According to their forums, streaming while downloading is not supported. You must wait for it to download. They shouldn't call it "streaming"; just that they added the feature of video playback within uTorrent.

That's quite misleading if that is the case... Either or, I swapped out of uTorrent for Xunlei (Thunder) a while ago, and I've never looked back. :P

going here lists old versions of Azureus

I hate when programs try and pull this crap. Making the assumption that adding these extra bells and whistles will increase convenience. And that health bar? That's BS at it's finest.

What they try to do is create a "user friendly" interface for "casual users". They end up screwing over the overall product in doing so.

There have been programs in the past that have done this very same thing, I just can't think of them right now because they were so horrible.

well i'm using this beta for a couple of days and i have no complains utorrent still make torrents download so.
works ok for me

using utorrent 3.0 beta.

it is a shit but it does not cause any problem until you mess with it. :ha: :P (I did it)

"added streaming for vids and music"

Admittedly my utorrent still sits at 1.6.1 and this was the first time it was opened since last time I wanted to see how old it was (and even longer since I even considered downloading a torrent) but was not the whole point of utorrent above all the other stuff that existed at the time that it was very small, very fast and very lean?

I update uTorrent (though I've been putting the latest one off for a while). But hey, as long as it downloads my torrents and still puts them in my downloads folder, it can add all the features it wants.

[quote name='machomuu' post='3603656' date='Apr 21 2011, 01:35 PM']This is why I have moved on to Vuze.[/quote]
that makes no sense, vuze is so much more bloated

on the utorrent thing, i'm pretty much forced to use uTorrent 3.0 alpha because i use the droid app to access it remotely (even lets you download your completed torrents and add new ones), you can also access it from https://web.utorrent.com/

if it wasn't for that i would definitely be back on 2.x, the way i see it bittorrent's mainstream client wasn't near as popular as utorrent so they are turning utorrent into bittorrent

i remember reading something like that, and i finally found it:
project crysalis

Edit: also
Another feature new to uTorrent 3.0 is the option to stream video before the download finishes. A streaming feature was already introduced in some experimental uTorrent releases and will now be added to the core uTorrent functionality. Streaming can be used to preview video files or to watch while downloading.
from the rundown of the new features at TorrentFreak

[quote name='KingdomBlade' post='3604352' date='Apr 21 2011, 10:38 PM']It's kinda like what they did with Game Booster. Thank god that I found a 1.4 version of that.[/quote]
omg please give me
