Facebook is going to die.

So I was at school today talking to some of my FRIENDS!!! And were were talking about social networks. So like I was saying this is not only my opinion but 4/5 of my schools opinion. I have a lot of friends (relevant). So I went around asking my friends (I'm not a nerd BTW) and they all said that Facebook will be the next MySpace and Twitter and Google+ will rise. This is what they said: That Facebook has to many updates, that there changing it to crap, it is getting old, the updates suck. It is weird that they know about Google plus. Anyways they say 4/5 times that they use twitter and Google+ now instead of Facebook. Even some of my biology teachers use Google+ instead of Facebook. This is weird. I didn't think Google+ would become this popular in a short period of time. FACEBOOK IS GOING DOWN!!!

What is your opinion?

I can't wait for the reactions when Timeline officially launches on the 30th to the public. :)

That said, Facebook isn't going down any time soon.

I never got why people complain about such unnecessary things.

Like I use Skype and WHENEVER I reference using Skype I have people go "OH SKYPE IS SUCH UTTER SHIT!" How? I can type text to people, voice chat with people, show my screen to people (if necessary and in 1v1 calls), or even video chat. It does all these things relatively well. Why bitch about it?

Same thing with Facebook, although I dislike how they change their layout every week. I remember back in the day when it was just the simple Facebook layout. Now they're trying so many different styles that it feels like they're shooting in the dark to see if they can hit a bullseye.

Still, it lets me see what my friends and people I know are up to (or at least troll people), so it does its purpose.

Google+ just came off as a place for hipster to go who see Facebook as too popular.

I think it's a bit early to say that Facebook's dying, when Google+ is just starting. I also think your FRIENDS!! sound like they're making actual prognoses more than giving an opinion. I would not underestimate the "power" of both Google and Facebook. I can imagine that there will be even more parties in the future (Microsoft maybe?) who will join this social media war.

I suppose next your gone to predict the following...

1.The sun will burn out tom.
2.Aliens that look like pickles will take over the earth.
3.Soon our tvs will come to life and attack us.

etc etc etc

People will always gravitate to a) whatever service is "doing it better", and b) the service that accumulates the most users. For example, you don't see GMail users threatening to jump to Hotmail or Yahoo Mail every second week, because nothing comes close to competing with it. Google did touch quite a few things that turned to gold (GMail, Reader, Docs), but when it comes to "social networking", they don't seem to have the slightest clue. Remember Orkut? Buzz? Wave? Right.

The reason Facebook grew to be so successful was because of the walled garden based on shared experience. Remember when you had to have a verifiable educational e-mail to sign up? It brought together people from different schools, and allowed them to connect based on their shared experience. Then it expanded to other types of networks, and then eventually for everyone. It's no longer strictly network based like it used to be, but it's still there -- you still have school networks, work networks, even networks based on geographic location. You can share and like your interests. The whole platform is based on experiences that can be shared.

G+? It has uhhh ... circles. An interesting innovation, but it's missing everything else.

Facebook won't be dying (and it's really silly to say so) because the platform is built around the shared experience concept, and no other competitor has managed to figure it out or implement it to the same degree. Facebook has got the "X Factor" if you will. G+ has a bunch of technogeeks, nerds and hipsters who are too cool for the mainstream Facebook.

They'll all be back.

Two things I prefer about Google+ (so far):
  • No spamming apps/games (Bob Dogshit has scored 12,000 skidmarks in Underpant Bingo!)
  • If anyone posts those fucking apalling 'slacktivism' copy/paste affairs (change your profile picture to Mr Bean for cancer spastics) I can add them to a circle called 'Cunts'
Facebook won't die quite just yet because at least 75% of it's users are the type of people the think Internet Explorer IS the internet.

Facebook will eventually die, sure. It's as inevitable as the heat death of the universe.
But it is impossible to tell when either of those will actually happen.
See, Google+ isn't the same type of thing as Facebook, and neither is Twitter or Tumblr for that matter. Facebook is for casual and sometimes meaningless relationships, whereas Google+ is more tailored towards professionals and people who, as lilsypha said, are "too cool" for Facebook. Tumblr is full of hipsters so poses no real threat to anywhere, and Twitter will never get anywhere while trying to generate profit and keeping such a short character limit (I mean they could use markup to use a multi-text tweet :\).
Facebook might have horrible management (forcing ideas upon people, never listening to the consumer base, selling personal data etc...) but the experience it has is more consistent and although other sites might replicate it partially, or even completely, the main problem is that it's pretty hard to dislodge what is already the largest social network. MySpace would still be successful if Tom Anderson hadn't sold out, purely for the reason that it did things differently in the beginning and didn't budge when it was at the top - the second the new management reprioritised so that advertising would have a higher priority it started losing users rapidly. Until Facebook does the same, Mark Zuckerburg's wallet is safe.

EDIT: I forgot to mention "CITATION NEEDED", "CITATION NEEDED" and "CITATION NEEDED".

When you highlight that, it feels like you are seriously trying to say you have friends, but in reality you dont >.<

Back on topic:
No facebook wont die. Is like saying because Firefox came, the brower IE will die. No the IE browser is still living and is used by tons of people.

Well now that you have to pay for a facebook gold account, facebook is doomed.

What the fuck? You do know "Facebook gold" isn't real, right?

I don't think Facebook will ever cost money to use. Since they'd lose so many people. Facebook makes money off ads.

It's not his fault that he lacks social skills ):

Google is the Giant that can, and hopefully will, take facebook out. I have never used facebook and never will. I am interested in Google+ though, not enough to use it, but maybe someday.

I make rum cake for 4th July every year, I make it a week prior and then soak it in rum in the fridge all week. I flip the cake each day, and add little more rum, it soaks it up everyday, so good.

Me and wifey was deciding on our next vacation, so I hung up a map on the wall, and give her a dart and said, wherever you hit, we will go. She threw the dart and it missed the map completely and fell into a trash can below on floor. So I said "ok Florida it is."
