gbatemp works fine enough on the new 3ds after changing some settings, like rearranging the portal to reduce images and disabling patron backgrounds
(and don't use mobile sites btw, and still expect to reload a frozen page very often and deal with the majority of images not displaying and no videos)

@smallissue Patron background images can be disabled? There is this setting in Style options, Accessibility options:
[x] Disable custom Patron profile page color schemes
(On since 10 seconds after seeing the first custom colors)

Don't see anything for the background/banner images.

To the original topic: I would rather use a 16 year old computer with something like Puppy Linux than considering a 3DS as main internet access.

i don't think there's a way turn off patron banner images using the preferences menu
other options you might want to tick:
- Disable smooth scrolling
- Disable menu transitions

I remember when I was in middle and high school, I didn't get internet until sophomore year. It sucked at the time, but it was nice to have some downtime from the internet, too. Seeya when you get back!

I've been using kindle touch for the past year or so to access gbatemp, it works surprisingly great as long as you disable javascript, so as long as you have kindle like mine or newer gbatemp should work. Also yes, I am currently using my kindle to write this very message...

@The Real Jdbye Nope. I don't think I'd be allowed to buy one, and I wouldn't understand how to use one anyways. I've had nightmares about phones.
One went like this...

My grandpa frank wanted to get me a phone, (because everyone seems to think I need one) and of course I refused. Well, eventually he bought me a phone. I was fairly angry at him for wasting money on something I'm never going to use, but I took it anyways. Couldn't figure out any damn thing on it and I had to ask strangers on the street how to connect to the internet. Eventually one person did it, filled all my connection slots (which looked like DSi connection slots) and I felt like a complete idiot. I saw some of the apps that my peers use, and checked them out. Hated them. All just apps filled with shitty tik tok like stuff. Later on I was trying to make it do some simple stuff (calling people, like any phone should do) and it wouldn't work. I broke down crying while trying to do at least something with it and telling people how phones are too complicated for people like me and I wished that we were back in the good old days before phones. (I was never alive then so that is weird to say)

This is probably inspired by all the times my friends tell me to look at something on their phones and I somehow close the app or bring up some weird menu. Or the times when I ask if I can make a quick call and they hand me the phone and I don't know what the phone app looks like or how to use it. (or the billion other times phones confuse me)

If I were to buy a phone, I wouldn't buy a smartphone. I'd get one of those simple ones with no touch screens that you use only for making calls. Any other kind is too complicated.

tl;dr I doubt I'm allowed to get one, and if I did I'd probably throw it against a wall and scream, and I have nightmares about phones. (pretty funny when I think about it) Oh and I'd only buy a simple flip phone.

so we never want to read books or comics or listen to music on our phones? your peers sound kind of dumb and addicted to phones if the only thing they do is look at social media.. which i'm sure they don't ALWAYS do. i always get far, far away from those people though, because they're too dumb and they have nothing interesting to talk about besides their life or social media. tiktok has obviously had it's ass busted for being chinese malware multiple times already, so i'm sure your peers are unsavable already. personally i use my tablet like a desktop computer, if you get what that means.

No, not at all, but this was a dream. Dreams aren't always accurate.
Some are in love with tik tok though. Doing all the tik toky dances and stuff wherever they go.

Oh and for any people who might get the impression that I'm afraid of phones, or I think phones are bad, I don't. Phones are cool. Phones are good. I just don't have a good use for one, and I don't understand how to use one. I'd probably like phones if I could actually use them.
If I were to buy a device, I'd much rather buy laptop, as I can use laptops.
