Well this is just my report on my Born of the Gods pre-release.
I went black and ended up building Jund. Everyone laughed at green for it's awful promo but green had some great cards. The promo was still complete wank but one of my friends went green and got an amazing pool.
Anyway I went 4-2, dropped out in the end because we all wanted to go home. No big money rares but I got the promo obviously (Eater of Hope), Satyr Firedancer, Herald of Torment, Fated Conflagration, Bident of Thassa, Mistcutter Hydra, and Gift of Immortality as my rares.
At the card dealer I bought a second Firedancer, two Young Pyromancers, and some cheap dollar rares for fun (2 Armament Masters, Jor Kadeen, 2 Master Warcraft, Auriok Steelshaper, and Jarad's Orders). Total it was $19, the Firedancer was a rip off though at $5 when it's less than $3 online. Still I'll probably end up buying two more because I just feel like building burn.
Overall BNG is a much better set than Theros I'd say, the cards feel much more playable and there's a lot of cards I see having competitive play potential and even more cards that are just good, casual fun.
I'd post my decklist but I already took the deck apart and forgot to keep a record of it.
Best story though from the day: Going against one guy, none of us get anything out until turn 4 when I get Cavern Lampad. Turn 5 he drops that heroic Centaur (3 +1/+1 counters whenever it becomes targeted). I swing with the Lampad and through on Feral Invocation to swing for 4 (he has intimidate so there's no blocking). Next turn he swings with the Centaur throws down 2 Aspect of Hydras on it and a Reap What is Sown. Swings for fucking 17 damage, drops me to 3. This is also our third game. At this point I think I'm toast but I'm able to keep throwing down creatures. He swings with the Centaur and I just block and take no damage. I'm able to do this for the next 4 turns and I kill him with the Lampad. Just amazing. Didn't even feel bad doing it because he was one of those 2quirky people who always has to say everything quirky and made me want to rip his fucking beard off.
