Not all discrimination is equal

It's been a while since I thought about writing this, and since things keep happening that remind me about it, I'm going ahead.
So, it might be obvious to some, but not all forms of discrimination are equally accepted in society. Discrimination about physical features (wearing glasses, being short/tall etc.) or illnesses is generally despised by most people.
Discrimination about groups of people is where it gets tricky. Racist remarks (especially if heavily so) are also generally frowned upon. Homophobic ones are quite more accepted, but are quickly becoming less so as the LGB rights situation improves, while transphobic and sexist ones (rape jokes and such) are the most accepted. Usually, a trans person can't even point out that a statement is insulting, that it gets labeled as a joke, or that the trans person is seen as "exaggerating", or "being incapable to take jokes".
This also reflects in online communities/chatrooms, since I saw cases where a racist insult results in measures from the staff, while homophobic and transphobic ones barely result in any.

Most of the time, they dont even know what they are talking about. Today, hating on things seems to be cool, and all the dumb little children on the internet who cant behave properly enjoy doing this mindless shit. I've seen enough "cool kids" talk pretty rude stuff about others, just because they are different in a way. Some do it because they dont know anything about the person they are talking about, or they are too stupid to act like a human being with a brain. Its your life, and you can live it how you want. Dont let some idiots in RL and the internet ruin how you want to live your life. And if you live the life you want to have, then you should be proud of you, since you achieved something you always wanted. Atleast you have the courage to come out, not like the others who tend to hide it, or just lie about it. Again, dont let words or opinions ruin your life, no matter what the reason is, that they make jokes about you.

Discrimination almost always comes out of lack of education in the matter. Hopefully as time passes and information continues to become more readily available, it won't be as big of an issue

Is a rape joke an example of sexism? I don't see how. It conveys no notion that the speaker views one gender/biological sex as superior, I guess you could do some nonsense with stats but it is that line of thought which ends up with complete bollocks like only those in the dominant group in society (group defined for the argument of the moment) can be [insert some ism/ist].

Equally I call someone a fucking faggot and it probably ends worse than I call someone a fucking foureyes in an awful of situations. Now whether that is my head kicked in or social problems arising may vary, and it varies somewhat between company.

On pointing things out then while "external" things are worth pursuing I would encourage some inward looking as well. A lot of what I have seen is covered in the following video, which also handily shows why most of it is wrong

Or if you prefer there is a bit of boy who cried wolf that went on and that does not help the signal to noise ratio.

I hate all people equally.
It doesn't matter if you're black or white, gay or straight, short or tall, fat or skinny, blind or deaf.
If you're a twat to me then fuck you.

Another problem is the political correctness of this day and age.
It's pretty much impossible to say something without offending someone and having a major backlash thanks to it.

"fun fact" some muslim classmate of mine constantly made hateful remarks on me sexuality and subculture and it was perfectly fine.
But when I commented on his religion being for barbaric medieval twats, I got the full treatment of being called a racist ._.

So you're implying rape jokes are used towards both men and women?
Am I a "nazi-feminist" if I dare implying they're directed towards women (except maybe for very rare occurrencies) and thus are indeed sexist?

@DinohScene It wasn't perfectly fine that he made comments about your sexuality as he was being incredibly homophobic. But it also wasn't in the right to respond the way you did by making a generalization with about his religion when you could have just as easily called him out for being an asshole

This doesn't mean you can offend someone on purpose because you could sometimes offend them unwillingly, it's kind of a non sequitur. People saying gays have a mental illness, or saying they identify with <insert object here> when talking with a trans person do it with the sole purpose of insulting.

I believe the somewhat pejorative term is feminazi, not one I have any great use for. Equally should I care to use the term the general definitions I see would not be met by your misguided comment.

I guess we would also have to figure out what a rape joke is. Is the kiddy on COD saying he raped the other team a rape joke or do we have to quote Sublime songs and say things like if it wasn't for date rape I wouldn't get laid? Come the other way. My electrician ripped me off last week; he fucked me, fucked me right in the arse. Is that such a joke? I mean it conveys a situation of unwanted penetration after all and perhaps makes light of such a thing, even if the meaning is clear to those with a general understanding of English slang.
Stats have their place, I am not sure this warrants the reading you are giving though. It is certainly possible for a rape joke to come from a place of sexism, and depending upon the results of the problem posed above it could well be a majority, but we are big on logic around here and one does not imply the other, even if it might be a higher than not probability.

On Islam and being a racist. Isn't that the wrong term as well for as far as I know Islam is a religion those of multiple races follow, and have done for donkeys years, to say nothing of not all of those races with large numbers of followers are Islamic. Generalising is hard and I would rather not do it so there is that, one has to wonder though if religion is a protected thing or indeed if all religions would want to be treated the same (Islam being a rather comprehensive philosophy where others are very much not).

I'd be more inclined to think that the vast majority of rape jokes/insults between men are in reference to homosexual/prison/domination rape rather than any reference to women?

Nobody that I can see implied or stated otherwise, we might well differ on when monocles should be dropped and ladies should come over all unnecessary but few would argue that if you are going to attempt comedy using such a concept then you face an uphill struggle in many cases. The discussion arose from the implication by the OP that such jokes are sexist in nature when there are other options.

Believe me, the amount of times I told him that he's a cockbag would fill your house with PS4's.
I had to stoop to his level to finally get the message across to leave me the fuck alone.

@Aurora Wright
Purposely offending someone yeh but saying "I don't like those big clothes on you" to a person who's got a lot of weight immediately puts them on the offended line.
Then again, it also differs from person to person.

Hence I said "I hate everyone equally"
I don't hate someone cause their this or that, I just hate the person.

A child playing COD and saying they "raped" the other team, or someone who says they "got fucked" is obviously not a rape joke. A rape joke is a joke on an actual act of raping, which is done usually directed at a woman (or as they pointed out it can sometimes be done towards a gay person).
Telling a man that he must have enjoyed it when he's raped is obviously sexist too (it refers to the stereotype of men always seeking sex and being available for sex, as part of male virility).

The thing, there is a fine line between social commentary and just doing something to be shocking. Jokes/comments can be offensive, but still be used to draw attention to a real subject. There is a difference between me walking up to someone and being like, "Ha! This guy is a faggot!" or someone walking around dressed in a bundle of sticks and me being like "Ha! This guy is a faggot!" Both ultimately are same phrase and both are "offensive." But where one is just random without logic, the other is made to be a social commentary, mocking the English language and the idea of homophobic slurs.
And it's this kind of fine line that make make it harder to distinguish if someone is being "offensive" or creating a social contrast the world around them. I mean if you look back at it, even I've done a fair sure of mockery

Both should be considered "offensive." One is mocking the "I need a straight answer" thread and using "gay" as a counter. I even use it jokingly when talking about spamming the EOF. That should be considered offensive, yet no one was offended because they could tell it was suppose to be a satire.
The other one is mocking the National Coming Out day, yet no one attacked the thread because it was obviously coming from someone who understood the day and was suppose to be a tongue-in-cheek mockery. Yet when blogs started popping up and mocking the day, they where deemed "homophobic" and attacked, then removed. Why? Because it was obvious that it was just intended to be offensive, but one could argue did they not provide some form of social commentary? What was so different about their blogs from my posts? I guess it could be tone, but at the same it obviously got people talking and inspired conversation.
I think the Nostalgia Critic did a great video covering this issue.

@DinohScene I completely agree, everyone is a piece of shit until I see otherwise. Im weary of everyone until I get to know them.

@TotalInsanity4 I'm an agnostic, and in any other case I would agree with you. I think with most religions, people can have their beliefs and pretty much let others live their lives. But if you've read anything in the quran, it's a barbaric and violent belief system that encourages murder and molestation. What's worse, is they live their lives where society is under law by these beliefs. Let's be realistic, the entire world is currently being terrorized by a religion. Not politics, not resource control, a religion. I think it's time we stop worrying about hurting people's feelings and face this fact.

I am not sure, you see the usage of the word racism is for some reason extended with a meaning that trascends actual race.

E.g.: People that discriminates "minorities" like "latinos" in the USA would be called racists, right?
But you know that the inhabitants of Latin America are from pehaps some hundreads of different races, like diverse native races, and also descendents of Spanish, Italian, German, French, English... etc. So... why are you "racist" if you discriminate a "latino"?.... well, I don't know.
