Not all discrimination is equal

It's been a while since I thought about writing this, and since things keep happening that remind me about it, I'm going ahead.
So, it might be obvious to some, but not all forms of discrimination are equally accepted in society. Discrimination about physical features (wearing glasses, being short/tall etc.) or illnesses is generally despised by most people.
Discrimination about groups of people is where it gets tricky. Racist remarks (especially if heavily so) are also generally frowned upon. Homophobic ones are quite more accepted, but are quickly becoming less so as the LGB rights situation improves, while transphobic and sexist ones (rape jokes and such) are the most accepted. Usually, a trans person can't even point out that a statement is insulting, that it gets labeled as a joke, or that the trans person is seen as "exaggerating", or "being incapable to take jokes".
This also reflects in online communities/chatrooms, since I saw cases where a racist insult results in measures from the staff, while homophobic and transphobic ones barely result in any.

@GamingAori no one bases their laws on Christianity, that's the difference. Other religions had their time of dictatorship and violence, and then we evolved, seperated church and state, became first world nations. They are still under sharia law in the fire and brimstone land that time forgot. They are still fighting their crusade.

I agree. Race as a concept is flawed one if you go over a timescale worth speaking of and the edges are so fuzzy it is not funny (do you do appearance, genetics, culture you were raised in, culture of your parents, if said culture is unknown then what goes, variously isolated pockets of humans then subsequently form different cultures of a sort). Minority or not holds little bearing on anything, I guess the quotes were there for a reason.

The distinguishing feature in this case though is you can choose to be part of a religion, give or take issues with teaching it to children (5 year olds not being known for their great rationality), whether it is inherited (you're a catholic the moment dad came and all that) and how apostasy is viewed. Pending... actually in light of the above I don't know if it counts but I will go it anyway and say some serious capability to alter genetics in a grown animal then the race you are is not something you can choose.
Holding prejudices, or worse still discriminating against, people or some or a religion might* still make you a bigot of some form but not inherently a racist. If the meaning of the word has changed then so it goes, I would argue though that it serves to weaken the term and that is not useful to anybody.

*if your answer to a question or something as yet unknown is a god did it then you are possibly going to struggle doing this science lark as much as someone that wishes to dig deeper, if you think blood transfusions are wrong you are likely not going to be my new phlebotomist, or if your religion would have you think TV and technology is the work of evil forces then you are not going to be my next TV studio engineer.

@GamingAori bro, the gunpowder plot of 1605 and the civil war, which was predominantly about slavery? And the kkk which hasn't committed a violent act since desegregation? I think people blowing up thousands of innocents on three continents in the last year alone greatly out weighs a few examples of loosely religious acts as recent as three generations ago. Also, none of these are countries, and they aren't under "christian law".

okay this is true but this is christian terrorism, in africa they kill people because they want a christian state, the same problem exist in asia. that extrem islam is a problem is true, but you find that typ of stuff in every religion. I'm an atheist and hate every extrem religious people, terrorism etc.

But this is what I'm saying. Other religions had wars hundreds of years ago. Islam is at war now. You have extremists from all walks off life, yes, but islam doesn't have extremists, it is its own extreme. Anyone that claims to be muslim and says they are against violence, doesn't live in the middle east and isn't devout. If they lived under sharia law and said that, they would be beheaded.

I get it. But its not a Christian war, there is no christian nation. Those are a small group of extremists in an isolated area. Islam has a nation, it is an entire religion at war. They are killing everyone everywhere. Being christian doesn't mean you are at war with Africans or whoever. Being muslim however, means you are at war with anyone that doesn't live for allah. There is a clear line I'm trying to draw here for you, but I'm failing.

okay but why only kill extremistmuslim people? every muslim here in germany who I know don't have any problem with homosexuals, other religions etc so it's false. it exist version of the quaran which is the extremist version but the same exist with the bible.

Dude, like I said, those muslims aren't devout and don't live in the middle east. They're not 'real' muslims I would say. I don't know how else to explain it. Go to Asia and ask the Christian group why they are killing people. After you get their crazy answer, go to Saudi Arabia and see how many words you get out before they chop your arms off and put your head on a pike.

Stop smoking that weed, chop your arms off and put your head on a pike? Pfff... too much imagination.
They will only bury your body leaving your head out and throw stones at you until you die, and only if you happen to be some poor foreigner expat working almost as a slave and you angered some high-standing rich mofo. /s

But it is true, in Germany muslims are very civilized and non-problematic people. I never had a problem with a muslim TBH.

srsly you say only terrorist are ''real'' muslim. it don't exist the one islam it exist a lot of ''sub islam''. the terrorist kill other muslims. so they only kill not ''real muslim''? pls start learning stuff about the islam. saudi arabia is stupid but it also exist non islam countrys where this is the same with a dictator, people get killed for no reason etc for example north korea. that the islamcountries has a lot of problems it's true but calling the normal muslims not real is just stupid. this is like calling homosexual man not real gay because they hate shopping. idk how many good informationsites about the islam exist in english, but we here in germany learn neutral stuff in school and find good stuff on youtube about the islam.

Well, you have the quran that tells you to kill and dismember infidels. Which are the real muslims, the ones that follow the word of allah, or the ones that dont? Also, didn't you guys just have an attack in munich?

It was an Iranian teenager.. our government made a statement condemning the attack

Do you mean that kid that supposedly had problems with their schoolmates because they insisted he wasn't a true German and decided to invite them to the mall and go Columbine on them? (Pfff... Well, it certainly wouldn't surprise me if I am missinformed, I don't read papers that often and my German is shitty)

PS: Anyway I don't see the "Islam terror" connection.

It was televised here as an isolated terrorist attack. Or at least the us statement was that it was a terrorist attack. But the us is all on the anti terrorism thing, especially with elections coming.

I think that people who eat out of their nose in public should be put on the top of the priority list in regards to protection from the state level in relation to being verbally insulted and what not. And should the state need to use force or even drastic measures such as public execution, I believe it all to be within reason. Nose candy should not be thought of as disgusting, but rather of a source of joy and a source of protein. Why can't people see?!?!?

Yeah, you're right, PC is the cancer that will bring down modern civilization.
But as always since the times of Noah and through the Roman empire, after the decay and collapse of a civilization a new one will raise from its ashes (only to later repeat the same mistakes).
