Windows 7 end of life? Update to Windows 10 at $9.95 Now!!

I just read an unfortunate post here on GBATemp. It's a "sponsored" message, and it claims this:

"millions of PCs are still running Windows 7, which are vulnerable to viruses, and that they should upgrade to Windows 10 to fix all of these issues."

Uh, no. First off it's hundreds of millions of PCs. But more to the point: Windows 7 is not any more vulnerable to viruses simply because MSFT is not issuing updates to consumers. That's a flat out lie, and the company that is selling these licenses knows it. MSFT is going to CONTINUE providing updates for Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 for the foreseeable future, and you can use any anti-virus pack you want. THAT is what protects you from viruses.

I think GBATemp should be ashamed to be promoting a campaign by a company using lies and scare tactics to force unneeded licenses on people that are perfectly fine and perfectly secure using Windows 7. Will this site really take money from anyone? And note that MSFT will continue to patch Windows 7 for corporate clients who pay for the privileged as well as for those with point of sale machines running a special version of Windows 7 for years to come. And someone has already figured out how to patch Windows Update to allow a consumer version of Windows 7 to grab these new updates. I have all of those updates on all three of my Windows 7 machines and they all update automatically through Windows Update.

    @Xdqwerty, Yeah, I'd recommend having another OS just in-case you want to play games.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    At least Linux doesn't contain spyware than what Windows has.

    @SylverReZ, cuz of lag?
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, No. Whenever you use the internet on Windows, Microsoft collects personal data and installs bloatware that isn't necessarily needed, such as Edge.

    @SylverReZ,
    I recall @impeeza mentioned some trick about not having bloatware when installing windows where you set up your country to "world" or smh like that

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Yes, you can debloat the operating system, but in some cases for me it just reinstalls them.

    @Xdqwerty yes, when you are installing Windows on the first steps you are asked for your current location, you MUST to select «international» so no bloatware is installed, because the bloatware is location based. if this night I have some time I will setup a VM and take screenshots.
