I was playing the GameCube Sonic Adventure DX on my Wii U and was playing the 'bonus minigames' (which are literally all 12 Sonic Game Gear games, the same ones joining Sonic Origins Plus), and realized that it flawlessly and instantly allows 2 Game Gears to be emulated at once, simply by having player 2 hit start, a second instance of the game starts on the right half of the screen while player 1 gets the left half, this works with any of the 12 games, many of which don't even offer multiplayer, but those that do, also seamlessly link up. It's honestly quite impressive.
I do wish it would let you choose which individual audio source to play from, because it instead layers both audio tracks which can get maddening if you're not playing a multiplayer game linking together.
I've seen homebrew Game Boy emulators tackle this task on the Wii (GB4GB) and some of the GB cores in retroarch offer the feature too. Thing is, even on a Wii U, the speeds of just 2 Game Boy game (even those without color) being emulated at once in these emulators isn't perfect. So to see this official solution for the same feature for Game Gear going as far back as the GameCube is both fascinating to me, and has me wanting to know of we can isolate it and release it as a (v)Wii or even GameCube piece of homebrew, able to load any 2 Game Gear games at once, not even necessarily the same game and not needing to be a Sonic game either.
Also I recognize that perhaps this isn't so much a Wii U topic necessarily, but there isn't much of an active GameCube section here, and the Wii U section is more active than the Wii section. And if we can do this, the Wii U would be able to benefit from it (in addition to Wii and maybe even GameCube).
