I've been trying to dump Fire Emblem Fates Conquest from my physical copy of the game onto my SD card using GodMode9, navigating to GAMECART -> the .3ds file (I've also tried the trim.3ds file) -> NCSD image options… -> Build CIA from file, and each time, the dump fails (I've tried selecting decrypt to check if that's the problem, but that also fails). I've verified the file through GodMode9, and it goes through successfully, I've done the whole quadruple format method + H2testw with the SD card with everything coming back clean and functional, and I have 10GB of free space left on the SD card (it's a 32GB card). I even read somewhere that GodMode9 doesn't like special characters, and because the file name has an underscore, despite the fact that I don't think underscores cause problems, I tried renaming the file on GodMode9, but it wouldn't allow me to do so. The file I'm trying to build a CIA from is named 0004000000179600_v00.3ds, if that helps at all.

I've tried just about everything I can find on forums and have no idea what the issue is, so any input from anyone with more knowledge than my newbie self has would be appreciated.

It is https://3ds.hacks.guide/dumping-titles-and-game-cartridges.html that guide you use to dump the game yes?

More context, if it helps -- attempting to copy the .3ds file to 0:/gm9/out (like in the guide) brings up the error "0:/gm9/out/0004000000179600_v00.3ds
Error: Cannot open destination file"
Pressing A to continue brings up "failed copying item"

Try disabling the write protection on the card. Else, can you try making the dump using https://3ds.hacks.guide/dumping-titles-and-game-cartridges.html again? If this still does not work, then the cartridge might be going bad.

In which case, I would like you to try this: https://3ds.eiphax.tech/cartunfuck (ignore the name).

Oh, wow. I haven't heard of that before. How did you learn of it? Are there success stories so far? Good results with those busted Pokemon ORAS or Persona Q carts? Maybe I can finally get my Smash Bros cart working again..?

I found that if you copy the file to the clipboard, then tell godmode9 to paste it to the folder you want, it works! Hope this helps, I was having that same problem and that's how I fixed it my self.
The only problem is that it doesn't make a CIA, it just extracts the file.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Yea ps3HEN is fine, don't mess with what's not broken. The HEN version irc is for the super Slims, and CFW (evilnat) for other models
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ, also what are the differences with ps3hen and evilnat?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    They both basically do the same

  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @SylverReZ,
    @BigOnYa ok i read that the super slim model (the one i have) isnt compatible with cfw and that "HEN is the next best thing, it is a semi jailbreak applied on top of the OFW system software, it is geared towards console models that aren't CFW compatible, you can run homebrew, play backups but you cannot use customised system files & must reapply your customisations & HEN after every boot."
