Having a hard time trying to reinstall back Rebug 4.82.1, after the update preparation, keeps telling me that the data is corrupted.
Overflow V2 DB 4.82 is installed into a new HDD, I'm trying to reinstall back CFW with the CFW HDD.

I am unsure how it works now, but I used it fine, make sure everything is correct. The flashdrive is correct, the update is correct, no discs inserted, nothing other than the usb flashdrive is inserted, and that it is being done through recovery mode.

Does the hard drive count? Because I am trying to install it with the CFW HDD in, gonna try a different USB stick.

Nope, installing Rebug 4.82.1 over Overflow's V2 DB OFW doesn't work at all, with or without the CFW HDD.
This needs to be fixed as it will leave to confusion.

The only way to get back to Rebug 4.82.1 (going back to Rebug 4.81 won't work, remember that this only installs anything 4.82 and upwards) you have to boot XMB on your Overflow DB OFW with your OFW HDD, log out of any PSN accounts or just remove the Ethernet cable to prevent bans, install Rebug 4.82.1 through the regular system update, then turn off your console and switch your OFW HDD to the CFW HDD.

Ah alright sorry about that, added a disclaimer to warn others. Thanks for telling me :)

It turns the system after the update is completed, thus all you need to do is just swipe the HDD, this applies if you're installing from CFW to DB OFW or DB OFW to CFW.

EDIT: Installing Overflow V2 DB OFW from the regular XMB system update using Rebug will semi-brick your PS3, you can fix this by reinstalling Overflow V2 DB OFW from the recovery menu.
I'm shooting a video detailing everything.

While this is good for overly ban concious people. The ps3 community have been enjoying online cfw for year now. Cfw with psnpatch plugin has served many well without any bans. Habib starbucks, habib cobra and rebug are the most confident cfws. Sman or multiman for a loader and psnpatch for disabling syscalls and clearing logs after loading an iso but before launch.

This setup has served many for years without issue of a ban. Habib starbucks is light and clean but will not load iso's, only games in folder format. Habib cobra and rebug will load any iso. Many other cfw change splashes, icons etc adding unnecessary risk. Sman pluging is light and clean loader from the scenes most talented developer. Multiman stealthed as singstar a more feature paced alternative from the same developer. Psnpatch acts as a cleaner. You load your iso or folder format game and after the disc icon appears on the xmb/home screen you run psnpatch. It disables syscall, clears your log and returns to xmb/homescreen where you can then run the disc icon which is your loaded backup and login to psn without hassle. Psnpatch plugin does not allow you to login with disabling syscalls so no issue of forgetting. It also allows spoofing console id to protect yours or if yours is baned. It will also install rifs/edats licence files for any psn package files you get from psndl or no pay station.

Nothing is 100% but look around and many will confirm they have had years of online backup play without any issue at all. Don't mod or cheat online or you will get instant ban. eg Modded COD black op games will result in instant bans.

As with most bans on most consoles, its incorrect setups and modded files/cheating that gets you attention. Dualboot is still a cfw and has a risk but does not allow backups, this setup does. If you want risk free then switch between cfw and full ofw with the new hacks avaible on 3.82, over this bd setup which has similar risk as a good clean setup as described above, imho.

As always do your research and find whatbsuits you best.

Its done.

It's great you are helping, but that video has your MAC address which is private info, if another person get's that you could get banned from some PSN games as some of them use MAC addresses to track bans.

(Also can a mod please rename this thread to "Overflow DualBoot 4.82 OFW/CFW .PUP - Dualboot without hardmod.", thanks)

Not if you never went online with any pirated game, or online with a modified PS3 in general.
This kind of controversy also happened with the PSP and I never saw anything happen to it, PS3 as well.

People can steal the MAC address and if that person gets banned from a game via MAC address they can take yours and use it to unban themself. It's a private thing most videos hide it.

Is there a way to dual boot without needing to reinstall cfw every time? Like there is with the flasher, or is flasher the only way to do that?

Sure. 4.86 was released last year but now 4.87 is needed. Dualbooting is pretty pointless anyways in my opinion. CFW is almost the same as OFW with a few 'unlocks'.

$60 for a game that's a decade old might be unheard of on PC but actually is not uncommon on consoles

especially Nintendo because they only ever lower the price of games when they do a greatest hits/platinum hits/players choice re-release
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
@The Real Jdbye, and the HD collections released for 7th gen consoles too
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:

I think we all forgot breath of the wild released for the wii u tbh

@The Real Jdbye, tbh the HD collections are more justified since they include more than just 1 game per copy
