Verdict

What I Liked ...
  • The momentum feels extremely fluid yet precise
  • The game introduces rush and protoman (and the slide)
  • Has a great soundtrack
  • Robot masters all have unique designs both artistically and game-play wise (not shadow man)
  • Mega Man is blue
What I Didn't Like ...
  • Doc Robots
  • Very poorly optimized, lag is now your best friend
  • Robot Master weapons are terrible, and this is coming from the person that does buster-only on every MM game they play.
  • When compared to the Doc Robot stages, the Wily stages are complete jokes

Gameplay
Still plays like any other mega man games before it. The same jumping and shooting shtick. Except now there's sliding, and it's also fun to use! Too bad it's in mega man 3, a game with reused robot masters with ridiculously large hit boxes and tons of lag. Not to mention some questionable level design. Who gets excited over playing through gemini man's stage? Especially the intro segment that's filled with bottomless pits and flat level design.
6
Presentation
Despite not having a flashy title screen, the music alone makes up for it. Oh hey mega man's face is at the stage select now! What's he so worried about?
8
Lasting Appeal
Would it be bad if I said that mega man 3 is one of my favorites in the classic series right along with mega man 4 (a good game)? That would be a little bad wouldn't it? Just like every mega man game, or at least most of them, it's extremely re-playable. If you hate the Doc Robots with a burning passion feel free to skip them with a password.

Overall

MM3 feels like Capcom released the beta build to a game at full retail price. But hey it's a pretty good beta in that sense.
Despite being a fan favourite the game is buggy as hell.

There is a reason I prefer Megaman 2 despite lacking on shinnies.

mega man 2 has multiple flaws and it isn't one of my favorites but when you compare 2 to 3

mm2 is like a polished masterpiece

Exactly! Is also the most fun of the first three games at least for me. Playing MM3 may look fun but then you notice how unbalanced the weapons are. Is quite noticeable the game was rushed.

I mostly play the first 3 games on Mega Man The Willy Wars that while not perfect it has a save option.

Sadly not even there was 3 fully fixed.

That's what the Mega Man 3 Improvement and Ultimate rom hacks are for.

Play MM3 Revamped, it's an updated version of Ultimate

Also i'm the type of person that goes buster only always lmao

so that's probably why i can bare 3 a little more

I can do buster only most of MM1 save Electman. That's because Willy Wars fixed the pause glitch but also runs slower. So it kind of balances out if you play enough.

I used to drink alcohol fairly often. Never to the point of it being a problem, but like 2-3 beers with dinner each night, or a few cocktails or glasses of Scotch or something. Started smoking/vaping weed a lot a few years back which killed 90% of my interest in booze. Now I stopped smoking/vaping weed as much and just deal with life the boring way most of the time
