    I believe images are cached and not loaded directly and that is why it's not getting updated. That is why the trick Chary mentions should work.

    SSDs don't last long? I still use my old Intel SSD from 10 years ago with no issues. Sure it's not as fast as newer drives, but no issues whatsoever in terms of reliability.

    Why would you have to open the terminal to disable the splash screen? It should be possible to add that parameter to the shortcut you're using with the same effect.
