Sony's just a parent company of numerous other companies - keep that in mind. But yeah, you're right - the entire group deals also with computers and RTV.

How many people do you see with a Sony phone or a Sony tablet compared to an iPhone or an iPad?

Apple have just done a lovely job of promoting their products not as electronics, but as status symbols. There's a reason why they put giant, noticeable Apple logos on all their products in plain site of everyone else. It's so they're noticeable. So when you're standing in line at the bank and some guy pulls out his black iPhone with his white Apple logo on it, everyone else goes "Well lookie here, he has one of them fancy iPhones!" They've done such a masterful job of promoting both brand loyalty and status associated with their products than perhaps any other company out there. How many Mac users do you see go out of their way to say Windows is a terrible OS and how good their Mac is? How many people with iPhones and iPads seem so eager to show them off? They do such subtle things with their marketing and product design that make them sell as much as they do, even if they're expensive and maybe even not the best.

Okay, why are you all stunned and awed. Like, seriously.

If you're comparing to Nintendo, look at it in a few different ways.

1. How many people do you know own a 3DS, DS, Wii, etc? How many people do you know who own a cell phone? Even people who don't really game that much still own a smartphone (like an iPhone) but wouldn't bother with a 3DS or Wii. Apple has a broader audience.
2. Nintendo's pushing video games and only video games. It's got two consoles at the moment, one of which is practically dead. Apple pushes not only cell phones, music players, and tablets, but computers. Like in #1, how many do you know own a computer? More products means more profit if they all sell well. And they do.

This doesn't reflect the quality of Nintendo or Sony or Apple, it's just what's most popular. And in all seriousness, people will be much more eager to have a phone than a 3DS or a Vita. It's a simple fact. And a lot of people like smartphones, and iPhones are a popular smartphone brand. Combine that with the whole "cult of Apple" thing which encourages every Apple owner to buy exclusively Apple products in the name of "streamlining" and "working together", and you've got brand loyalty that makes Nintendo or Sony fanboys look level headed.
