Hacking CleanRip, new disc dumper

Emu_kidid released a new disc dumper, called CleanRip, with much more features than SuperDump, just to let you know. Hope this is the right topic, if not, I'm sorry

CleanRip is a Gamecube and Wii optical disc backup tool for the Nintendo Wii.

The "Clean" in CleanRip comes from the fact that this tool does not require nor utilize any custom IOS (cIOS). It simply requires that you have the latest Homebrew Channel (HBC) installed. Also, if it finds that IOS58 is installed, you will be able to rip discs at USB 2.0 speeds.

• FAT32 / NTFS file system support
• USB 2.0 Support
• Front SD Support
• Gamecube / Wii / Wii Dual layer disc dumping
• File Splitting (1,2,3GB or Maximum file size - use only on NTFS)
• MD5 sum presented to the user on successful rip

Requirements:

• Wii running the latest HBC (http://bootmii.org)
• Wii or GC Controller
• USB or SD storage device (>1.35GB free space)

And what is this about file splitting on NTFS? Why? Does it do it automatically? How does it get a 4.37GB ISO onto a FAT32 without splitting?

I think it's a just mistake. Probably it should be splitting on FAT and not on NTFS

Excellent. Not that superdump was bad, but I remember reading that some cIOS's screw up images in the dumping process some, making them non 1:1 images. This should fix that problem.

And NTFS support is always nice too, but most of my flash drives and my Wii's USB HD are still FAT32 for compatibility reasons. Good to have if you have an HD and want full images without having to cat though.

I think it's a bit faster than SuperDump. Dont remember getting dump speeds about 3mb/s with SuperDump.

If you have IOS58 installed, it will dump with USB2 speed
otherwise it will dump with USB1

I think I figured it out

File Splitting (1,2,3GB or Maximum file size - use only on NTFS)

the "use only on NTFS" relates to the maximum file size only. As you know, FAT32 is restricted to 4GB, therefore it will fail if you dump a whole image of a Wii disc on a FAT32 partition.

This isn't too bad...a couple of suggestions for NTFS use though:

1.) Maybe use the libntfs source from WiiXplorer, since that's a bit more recent and has additional fixes.
2.) Make dumping a one shot deal when selecting NTFS since it can handle the entire size of the dump. Currently it will stop reading the disc when it hits (guessing) 4GB, then you need to press A again, disc spins back up and continues reading the last small portion - this is using the max option.
3.) Automatically join the two parts of the file and just produce 1 file...which actually if step 2 just did the entire disc at once on NTFS, would not be needed.

Otherwise looks good and maybe a tad bit faster than SuperDump.

Time to change the scene rules? This seems like a better tool than superdump. Correct me if im wrong, but scene releases have to be dumped with superdump right?
