Concept designer shares imagined PS5 console design ahead of launch; mistakenly labelled as "leaks"

ps5.jpg

With the PlayStation 5 event rescheduled for tomorrow, anticipation is building as to what Sony's next console will offer. We've already had a glimpse at the controller and specs, and tomorrow's event is set to showcase the titles that gamers can expect to play on the next-gen console. However, how the console itself looks like has been quite elusive. We saw the alleged V-shaped dev kit which is unlikely to be the final model but nothing officially from Sony.

The lack of hardware info hasn't stopped LetsGoDigital and Dutch designer Jermaine Smit, aka Concept Creator, from sharing a design of the hardware. This streamlined, two-toned model shares similarities to the PS3 and looks like a more probable final model. However, certain online outlets are claiming this fan design as being "leaks" of the actual PS5 hardware. While realistic-looking, they are only fan renditions of what could be the PS5's look. In fact, this is LetsGoDigital's and Concept Creator's second mockup of the PS5 hardware with a two-tone design, with the previous sharing more angular features.

The actual design is anybody's guess at this point but these mockups help to fill in the need in the meantime. How would you like the PS5 to look like?

I think anyone expecting it to look that slim will be very disappointed. Just look at the Xbox series X which features similar hardware. While Sony no doubt do a better job of designing and making hardware than Microsoft, I wouldn't be surprised if we're going to be looking at a thickness similar to that of the launch PS3.

Let's hope we get a look at it tomorrow but I don't think it's a dead cert.

I'll doubt that they'll share the hardware design tomorrow as they specifically said it'll focus on the games and that they will have more to share after

That's pretty much exactly how I'm hoping it will look, far flashier and far more unique than the Xbox box without going overboard. This also tracks with design elements from previous Playstation consoles, kinda just combines a bunch of them. I'm sure if it turns out like this there will be an all-black variant too, since it's not hard to anticipate demand for that after the controller debacle.

I think anyone expecting it to look that slim will be very disappointed.
Well, without full physical dimensions that could just as well be an optical illusion, or it could be considerably wider/taller than XBSX. That said, there is definitely too little in the way of ventilation for sufficient air cooling in this concept.

The XSX is pretty incredible, though. The whole console is made for cooling purposes, it's a really intelligent design.

We'll see, but the XSX seems to be playing it smart first, and form factor second. Even then, it's still basically just a normal rectangular prism.

Obviously no matter what the final design looks like, some people are gonna hate it. Regardless, Sony is basically in a no-lose situation here since Microsoft gave their design team a budget of $5 to make a Gamecube minus all of the personality.
I wish series X more cubic shape like game cube.

Anyway...saying series X reminds me of this (Serris X):

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
