I just wanted to transfer a PS3 game (GoW Collection) to the internal HDD. So I ran the FTP program on my PS3. When I accessed the PS3 from my computer I realized that I have no clue where the games have to be copied to. Google didn't help either. Does anyone here know in which folder?

Do you happen to know what the average speed is when using a network cable? Wireless with the average of 400kbps isn't that fast.

I did a transfer and was able to pretty much push 100mbps consistently over a wired connection. If you have a GigE network card and hub, I'm sure you could even get 1Gbps speed.

Is it just me or does anyone else get annoyed that the folder is spelled "GAMEZ"?

I suppose it's 50% to avoid confusion with the existing 'games' folder.

The other 50% is just being l33t I guess

I started transfering the game using FlashFXP and halfway it stops and tells about unsupported commands and that some files could not be transferred. Any idea?

What is the best way to transfer games to the external HDD?

I tried to transfer the game through the Explorer but after 10 mins. a message comes up that I don't have the right/permission to write!? Btw, I'm on Vista if that matters. Any idea?

You can stick the folders on an external drive via USB then plug into PS3 and copy to gamez with the file manager homebrew... unless there are 4GB+ files in which case you need to FTP. Try filezilla to FTP because a lot of people use it and I haven't heard of this problem before.

To do a wired connection, I used a cat6 crossover ethernet cable to directly hook the PS3 to my PC.
I was getting at least 20% utilization of the 1Gbit potential, or roughly 20-25 MB/sec consistently with most transfers. Most wouldn't get anywhere near the full 128 MB/sec unless they have a fast hard disk drive on their PC.
Oh, and I was using the PS3 FTP package and FileZilla on my PC.

All I use is Comgenies Awesome File Manager. It rocks so long as your just copying data. I've copied one game I ripped to my pc via USB drive, and 3 to my PS3. Besides accidentally putting one into the wrong directory I've had no problems.
