Who said that? I thought FF3 was pretty ugly.

Anyway, this is really starting to look nice and interesting. The GC version didn't really interest me though. I'll just have to see how it ends up.

i thought FF3 was great!

but this is shaping out to be incredible. can't wait to try it!

Yeah, FF3 looked like shit... This isn't much better either.
shit.. I dunno.. while there are a lot of graphics in FFIII that make me wonder what the hell they were thinking.. its still a pretty nice looking game.
this game looks absolutely excellent, great art style that works very well with the DS's limitations, and doesn't hinder the in-game graphics, which means the game looks beautiful

Well, to be honest, I don't think the graphics in FF3 are that great. In my opinion the best 3D to date is Mario 3 on 3, also by Squeenix, but FF:CC is shaping up to be great too.

PS: Maybe what makes the graphics in FF3 look so good in comparison is how lame the story is. Just thinking aloud here...

Because it is. Compress the FMVs or throw them out altogether and FF7 would probably be around 50 MB.

A remake could recreate the scenes in live 3D rather than use prerendered crap and that wouldn't really take any space. The DS can do better graphics than the PS1 and the PS1 can do better graphics than FF7, there is quite a lot of potential. Of course, potential has to be used. I think the FFCC screens in this thread lack soul and style. They look like the typical cheap awful 3D. It's not difficult to avoid that, you simply have to focus on style before realism. Look at the DQ9 screens, that's the way it's done right.

wow, I've been thinking DQ9 looks lackluster.. I really just don't like the (DBZ) art style.

I think this game looks awesome, nice character designs, good art style, interesting looking areas, lively looking gameplay

Well, the DS screen res is 256X192 = 49152 pixels
FF7 FMVs are at 640x380 = 307200

that's a ratio 1:6.25

Since most of the data on the 3 CDs are FMV, that's 600mbx3 = 1800mb

Giving the required FMV video, 288mb... Bearing in mind not all the 600mb is used for FMV, that's still far from wherever you garbled 50mb from. Then add in the space for coding the engine, and you won't fit FF7 on the max cartridge. Which as discussed previously, future cart size increases are technically impossible to run on the current DS hardware.

So again, "you make that sound so easy". Fair enough if FF7 didn't have so much game time, but I'm guessing you underestimate how big FF7 actually was.
