I was using dpgenc.exe included with ms2 to convert an .avi file to .dpg, but it always fails in between saying dpgenc.exe encountered a problem and needs to close. Anyone care to help?

You need to install a codec pack, one of the most popular is called the K-lite codec pack. Install that and your encoding shold now work.

Alternately, you could use "SUPER Video Converter" to create DPG files.

I'd advise using Super, it's really good and can convert virtually any video file TO virtually any video file, it supports LOADS of formats. And it can play them all as well, but dpgs are only played as sound iirc.

I hear that with moonshell 2 you should use the dpg tools one that comes with it for best quality. Personally I would recommend xilisoft dpg.

I remember talking about something like this with someone in #acekard.

Dpgenc has a problem when reading strings from certain lang files, causing the encoding process to stop. One day, I changed it back to japanese and since then it never happened again.

You should just leave it at the defaults. Drag the .avi/.whatever into the slot it needs to be in and then have it encoded.

Right-O. Edit: It makes ~20 mb files which when played with moonshell are only 5-6 secs long but when played back in SUPER are the full thing. WTF?!
