Maybe it's an OCD thing

Maybe if they stop counting in half-lives and started counting in full lives... Half-Life 3 would be Life 1.5, they can develop that without exceeding the number 2

Half-life is one of those games series where a new main series game takes forever to come out. The joke is that two people went to protest, and the founder of the company went out to join them. Valve often jokes around, admitting that they take forever to release a new game.
