INB4: "Who has 300+ games installed at the same time?"

I do.

It's been three years since I last hit the Homebrew Scene with any significant dedication, and ever since I found out the hard way about the 300 title limit (which is really 293 due to the 7 apps already installed, 292 if you're using a DS VC title for CBHC, 291 if Mario Kart 8 came pre-installed) I've been looking for workarounds such as back-up loaders that don't have or can help get around the title limit.

Just wanted to check and see if update 5.5.5, Tiramisu, at FTP Workaround, etc. has been able to increase or bypass the 300 title limit altogether, since it'd be nice to not have to keep three different storage devices organized for one console.

Yes, buy a second unit console.....

I cannot even imagine how long it takes you to loads 300 Channels in the Menu in boot up stage , as the Wii U Menu it's interactive effects channels, it takes some times to loads them. Me, with 3/4 pages between apps and games, I already go mad because the channels needs to load one by one; with around 300 Channels you are waiting 20 minutes in front of the menu before loads all.

Otherwise buy a big SD 512gb /1TB and place the missed games in the menu into the fast SD, and boot up by Loadiine GX2.

I dont know what to tell you, But I highly doubt you are using all 300 of those apps
there is no workaround, There is no workaround coming, You're just going to have to uninstall some apps

EDIT: For some reason I thought this was for the 3DS, I didnt see this was in the Wii U section, So feel free to entirely ignore this post :)

People have been asking about the 300 title limit for the 3DS and Wii U for years, myself included. And it's become clear to me that it's never gonna be tackled. The people that might be able to figure out such a thing don't seem interested in looking into it at all, and I totally get it.

What I could suggest, is store your excess games on a second USB hard drive, and then just swap drives (with the system off, Wii U doesn't like you changing out the hard drives while it's on (and not in the vWii)) when you want to play games on the other drive. It's not perfect, but it works. You could also opt to store extra games inside Loadiine, of course those games will take longer to boot up.

No no, it only takes about a full minute for all 300 titles to populate the menu.

As above, it really doesn't take as long as you would think to load up 300 titles, even so it doesn't affect the performance of the Wii U menu.

This question always ends up going around the circle of "why do you need 300 games anyway, you'll never play them all".

Yet... nobody thinks twice when someone has the entire collection of 1700+ SNES games in their ROMs folder, or grabs the entire USA release pack of Loadiine compatible Wii U titles from some torrent site and copies them all over to an oversized HDD.

The reason someone might want more than 300 titles is if you're trying to load the console up with (for example) the entire VC collection, custom WiiVC injects, a tonne of Gamecube, Wii U, Wii.etc titles, and just want to launch them from a Wii U formatted HDD on the main menu like you would a normal retail title.

I forgot the exact file name, but it has Barista in the file name, which is the file that causes this limit. so, we know where the file is and probably where it is in the file, just no one has bothered to patch it.

I just looked for it. I think it's this file, which is why multiple accounts can bypass it:

The 3DS workaround is 3DSBank by RocketRobz creator of TWiLight Menu https://github.com/RocketRobz/3DSBank

I did think about save redirection and "banking", but you don't get to choose what titles are excluded, right? so you'd *also* need to make some kind of app to select which apps map to which bank, etc, etc.
I suppose there's some easy heuristics like "VC titles" which you could work out from title ID? Though even having a separate menu for VC titles still probably wouldn't satisfy some, as mentioned earlier in the thread it's "normal" to have 1200+ SNES games.
Personally I think the answer is complete home menu reimplementations. There's two I'm aware of that were being worked on in like, early 2020 (one based on Loadiine GX2, one based on a mockup of the Switch menu). The limitation is entirely in the Wii U Menu, the system itself appears to handle higher title counts just fine.

the file above is correct, right? I think @EyeKey mentioned it to me, but I can't quite remember. I don't really care if people want that many games, but I don't really condone piracy if that's what they're doing. I usually just download games to test things for others while never playing them.

It seems sensible to me, but I don't know for sure. From what I remember, the file is only built with space for 300 things, it doesn't grow dynamically.
Maybe an easier answer is to patch the limit higher (1000?), though I'd be very antsy about doing that on sysNAND. Combined patch + savefile redirection might be the go.

I would recommend using retroarch for your SNES NES gb/gbc/gba games for your N64 you can use emulation but I just use vc injection and for Wii/gc/Wii u put your games on another hard drive and swap them out when you want to use the other games but sadly nobody had fixed it as of now

8tb? The entire Wii and GameCube libraries combined don’t even break 3tb.
Totally wrong. GameCube complete library (no duplicate games from different regions) uncompressed is around 880gb, NKit compressed just over 600gb. Wii complete games in wbfs format again with no duplicates from different regions plus all WiiWare and virtual console are around 3.4tb. There are a couple of Korean games that cannot be copied or converted to wbfs and at least one Japanese game that is on multiple disks making it impossible to play from loaders. Take it from someone who knows. I have 5tb on my Wii. Complete gameset for Wii/GameCube favouring American versions over European. If I'd gone with favouring European it would have been bigger because of the multi language.

Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
