Hacking Help Diagnosing and Installing Custom Firmware on N3Ds

Hey Team,

Long time. Been out of the loop - nice to be "back".

I am not sure where to start with this one. I have a N3DS and the previous owner said he had "custom things that let him not pay for games on it".

I am having this issue every time i turn it on however.

I am clueless and don't know if this is salvageable and if so where to start.

That problem is solved with updating Luma CFW. But first, check what Luma version have your console now (for that, turn on your console while pressing the SELECT button and check it on the screen menu that will be shown).

Then, yes. You can update Luma directly to the latest version. Read this post:

And, once you have Luma updated, then perform this guide entirely:

Have in account that the console SD card must have with FAT32 format to be recognized by the console itself.
