Hello!
My name is Michael and I am co-founder of a small but steadily growing community around the Nokia N-Gage. In addition to the historical reappraisal of the N-Gage, I am personally interested in the technology and have therefore created an ecosystem for the development of homebrew applications and games. This is not perfect, but at least we were able to successfully compile the leaked source code of Rifts: Promise of Power.

All of this serves primarily to attract more people to homebrew development, since a respective scene does not exist.

The project has its own GitHub account: https://github.com/ngagesdk
Hackaday has also taken up on the project: https://hackaday.com/2022/01/27/an-up-to-date-development-environment-for-the-nokia-n-gage/

Best regards, Michael

I only ever saw one in person.

What languages does it support or is the absence of them in the stuff above something along the lines of "there is a proof of concept C compiler but really you will be writing ASM, maybe just in a nice IDE"?

This is not a new compiler. It's GCC which was part of the official (and freely available) Symbian S60v1 SDK. However, using the proprietary perl based build system in 2022 is tedious. You need a VM, outdated software and everything is more complicated than it could be. The project goal is to make homebrew development more accessible by integrating the build procedure into CMake, providing examples, libraries, abstraction, etc.

Apparently you guys played the wrong games. The platform is actually pretty decent.
Exactly there were a good few games that were actually pretty decent on the system. Such as King of Fighters: Extreme/SSX: Out of Bounds/Rayman 3/Glimmerati and a number of others.

The exclusive titles in particular are still great today. Especially Rifts and both Pathway to Glory games. I hope we see some good new ports in the near future though.
