We have tried it on an original NDS with a flashcart and still had the same issue, so I don't think model makes a difference, but thank you for the kind offer!

Update: We've tested the special message on another 3DS running custom firmware, (newly installed, default settings), and everything ran as expected, leading us to suspect that it is a flashcart firmware issue. Unfortunately, there isn't much we can do in this case, other than advise anyone experiencing the same issue to try using an emulator, or, in the case of playing on a DSi/2/3DS, load the game directly from the SD card. We apologize for any inconvenience caused!

Well, tested Jpns version and it's does not freeze

Yes, we think it might be that the flashcart loads something in RAM, making the values are different, which is affecting the subtitles. (As you can see, the original game didn't have subtitles for the special message or opening movie, they're something Illidan added in!)
If it's a toss up between removing the subtitles, or leaving them in and having the special message translated and working with the exception of on flashcarts, we hope you'll agree with us that it's nicer to leave them in Fortunately, there's also no chance of losing save progress with where the crash is, as the Special Ending is only viewable from the title screen menu.

For any new players reading this, the freeze is at the very last part of the game, in the menu so it doesn't even affect your gameplay and story. So just play the game however you like. And if a freeze occurs, just transfer your save and play on an emulator as the message is about a minute long. So don't hesitate to play this gem

@PhantomGhost , hi chief. I got to a certain point, when during a festival Holo asks to taste a delicacy and the protagonist forbids it, because it is a luxury item and he cannot afford it. The dialogue I have pictured is repeated over and over again, and I cannot continue in the game. In my opinion, either the following sentence has not been translated, or there is a text pointer problem or similar. I use an r4 Gold Pro with YSMenu, assuming it makes any difference. Thanks.

Heya, thanks for checking out the patch! This is an issue with the 1.0 release, please update to the latest version (1.3) which should fix the problem
