I finally have enough funds to go out and get a modchip, but I want to compare them together to see which one better suits my needs.
Does anyone know of a compendium like this or where I could find one?
I'm leaning towards a Wiiclip + Wiikey V2
Any suggestions overall?

I'd just want to be able to play Wii backups and play GC backups on a regular DVD.

Also; with the wiiclip; can I remove it before I do an update for the Wii?
Or is it set-in-stone?
Though taking it out several times might seem unfeasible...

You will first need to open your wii and find out which version it is. Or if you do not want to, buy a modcip that is compatibly w/ all models. Wiikey v2 or D2pro v3 would be good. If your on a budget, D2Sun v1.5 and above versions are okay. (D2Sun ver. 2.01 and above are upgradeable.)

Yes, you can remove the Wii Clip whenever. You would not want to update your firmware until people find out the changes in the new version. Remember, you can always downgrade w/ waninkoko's downgrader.

You could always save your funds since the new Backup Loader is coming out soon and its almost the same as having a modchip. Just not the function to autoboot, but StarFall takes care of that.

There's always going to be the case of "that" game that doesn't want to play.
I don't think the new backup loader will be able to load GC games, but I could be wrong.
Highly doubt that I am. :x

I have an December 06' Wii, and I've checked the databases.
Almost all of them say I should have a GC2-DMS so all modchips should be able to work.
Thanks for your help, it'll definitely guide me in the right direction.

Original Wiikey + Wiiclip is your best answer. (Easy to install, no soldering)

Why go for Wiikey v2 when Wiikey v1 works?

Because when a new game comes out that has a new protection method, the Wiikey v2 will be supported, while the Wiikey v1 probably won't see an update months after the game was launched!

. Plus it only costs $15 more.

That's why you should go for YAOSM. It's opensource, so there will allways be updates.

I second that. YAOSM FTW! Bell is a diligent coder. Not to mention, a free-clip will conserve your budget on your part.
