Star Wars KOTOR II devs go back on promise to release restored content DLC for Switch port

sdajdshdius.png

One of the selling points that publisher Aspyr Media was hyping up prior to the release of their Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II port to the Nintendo Switch was a DLC pack that would include a fan-made modpack that restored cut content from the game. When the game released last year, the restored content DLC wasn't available at launch, and was promised to follow sometime post-release. In the meantime, the initial launch of the game was buggy, and had a game-breaking glitch that prevented players from finishing it. Nearly a year after, Aspyr Media announced that they have canceled the restored content DLC for KOTOR II on Switch, with no specific reason given for the cancelation. To compensate customers who bought the game specifically for the DLC, Aspyr is offering a free code for a range of other Star Wars titles, including KOTOR 2 for Steam, which has support for the cut content modpack via Steam Workshop.

Looks like a title to pirate and with this there isn't a reason to buy it

I had been holding off from playing this after they announced they would be adding the restored content as DLC. I loved the first port on the Switch and that was my first experience with KOTOR. I'm assuming playing on PC with the restored content is the best way to play this?

Literally the only way you can finish the game, the final official version has a bug that stops you from progressing past a certain point. Restored content mod fixes that, a bunch of other bugs, and adds previously cut content to the game.

Once again the moral of this story is to stop throwing your money at games before they’re fit for purpose. There’s not a company on the planet that won’t rob you and your granny blind if the games not making enough money.

I once got a refund from Rockstar for releasing Vice City iOS with a game breaking bug. It took me months to get my measly £2.50 and Rockstar spent a disproportionate amount of effort trying to not refund me. They even claimed that they were busy patching it (they never did.)

All that time and money wasted JUST to not refund me a couple of quid that they ripped me off for. I could go through that crap over and over every time a gaming company tried to screw me over, but it’s definitely a lot easier to sit back and wait for the finished product.

I was sad for all of 5 seconds but then I remembered the Steam Deck exists. Anyone wishing to experience the cut content on PC should install TSLRCM + M4-78 Enhancement project. You can download them from various sites but a merged version of those mods is up on steam workshop for anyone who owns it there. GenoHaradan Legacy is cool too.

We constantly see paid shills spewing nonsense like "but game development costs much more than it ever has", ignoring the little work that needs to go into development these days, for vastly bigger sums of profit.

It's stories like this and broken on release, etc, which show just what a wild West the gaming sector remains.

In most other industries, corporations couldn't get away with the things that occur in the gaming sector. Whilst held to higher standards and stricter governance, they also make much less turner and profit than the gaming sector.

Same reason Anthem refunds were denied by EA.

i feel so cheated. i already own kotor 1&2 plus a ton of other star wars games. Got them all in a humble bundle more than a decade a go. Hell!, it was one of the first bundles ever released through HB. Well before they were well known.

I got that same Star Wars Humble Bundle. In hindsight, it was one of the best bundles Humble ever did.

Obsidian should be more selective with the people they choose to do these switch ports. Pillars of Eternity is another unplayable/broken port, but from a different publisher.
Unlikely that Obsidian had anything to do with Aspyr porting their project-for-hire from ages ago.

typical cocksucking devs screwing people after they already paid for a half baked product. They have no shame, then again it's all about money

Well, this ruined my whole day. And funny thing, the modders made it easy to put the content in mobile versions if KOTOR 2 so what's Aspyr's excuse? Even heard that the content was ready to go and the original team that made the mod had helped them out.

Yeah but if your main goal is just to play n64 and GameCube you can save about $50 and have the portability option

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
True, but on 2 monitors at 4k. Its just want you want really, to each they own.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
For a kids aspect Anbernic would be the better option they'd probably melt over the price on a good 4k display

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
So they buy a pi5 kit for about $150 and say a 28" 4k display probably looking around $400 total
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They'll be getting in the territory of portable Pcs anyway

  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Again you get what you pay for, its like buying a S series for $300 but its only 1440p native, if you want true 4k, gotta get the X model for $500. But yea you right, when moms buying it anyways, you gotta stay cheap.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
They could use HD out on their TV no real need for a monitor these days tbh the purists will disagree
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
I'm kind of phasing out on the need for wanting all these consoles cool to have but they just become dust build ups
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I here ya there, I have too many myself, and have hard time letting them go, since most of mine I've modded at some point. Anymore I just play Switch on the go, seriesx at home.

I'm designing my own entertainment cabinet for my man cave, to store all my systems, then I'm also designing a power supply/HDMI switcher so I can switch to whichever system I want, and power it also. Already picked up the cabinet board, but tinkering with my drawings before start
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
But yea, I have frogger arcade cabinet that I gutted and put a Pi4 then Pi5 into, but it never gets played much anymore, should sell it. Even when the kids come over, they don't want to play on it, just the xbox. TMNT and Simpson's arcade is still so fun on it, esp w 2 players.
