Didn't think I would have a new post so quickly.

So I re installed the OS the other day, not routinely a problem for me (I do it a lot).

This means re installing programs too of course (not routinely a problem either). Well until recently.

I don't liiiiike Steam, but until today I didn't hate it. I now dislike it a lot more so.

Hey it's ironic, I rarely actually buy games too. But this Steam service, I have actually bought Civilization V and Heroes of Might and Magic V via Steam.

It's likely going to be the last games too.

Say what you want, but their most recent 'Steam Guard' is mislabeled. It should be called Steam Killer.

It took three codes to actually get it so I could install my legit copy of the game which I have the dvd for.

Here's the humour, I was going to go and post a thank you for at least getting the new codes to me fast, and say at least I don't mind the speed of service.

Nope, I can't log onto the forums, need a code. WTF?

Oh I am so not going through that all over again, just to say thanks for helping me sort out a program that is essentially ensuring I will not be buying any games through Steam again unless I have a gun to my head. I can hardly wait to see if I have trouble re installing my copy of HOMM V and the expansion. Bad enough it's going to likely take all day to download them again (because Steam sucks for speed some times).

Just damned glad all of my wargames are predominantly bought from a company that sells them as installers with a serial and nothing else (including internet access) required.

I don't mind a bit of hassle, but I have limits.

I am so definitely becoming very hardened and very indiferent to the troubles and trials of trying to market games and not suffer from pirates too greatly.

Why bother, when I get treated to an incredible sum of really irritating hassles for something I actually paid for eh. Where's the upside to being nice?
Is there an upside?

Oh the Steam community is this and the Steam community is that. Phooey.

I have like way too many wargames as it is. I own as many games as I likely have any lifetime required to play them all before becoming fertilizer.
I feel sad for the young though, that likely will see even more stupid aggravations foisted on them.

Long live just downloading a game, and telling them to piss off until such time as actually buying the game is not the equal of root canal (ever had root canal work done? not pleasant let me tell you).

Dunno how people do things so wrong.
It's not Steams problem, I can tell because me and many of my friends have never once had problems with Steam except the occasional losing connection to the Steam network or whatever making our friendslist not work for a few minutes.
Somehow, people do shit wrong and then blame the software. It can't be stopped, but it's annoying to listen to people bitch.

EDIT: and i've been using Steam for god knows how long...2003 I think I started. Back then I had some problems but I was like...12, so of course the problems were my fault. These days, no problems. The only annoyance is Steam not accepting Instant Transfer payments from paypal (bank account funding+ credit card backup, gotta be straight credit card or paypal funds).

welcome back, Panzer.

If you like to re install everything, you should buy physical copies of your games, or pirate them. If I'd have to re download every game just because I formatted my PC I'd throw it off the window.

this is one of the reasons why internet activation is standard for games these days.

You wouldn't have had to download them again if you used the backup and restore feature built into the program

In my opinion OP your problem seems to originate from the lack of a proper interface between the chair and keyboard.
