To the people that create the various USB Loader programs....

Please help the Wii forums by changing the error messages you report when the USB drive cannot be found.
Change the error screen to suggest plugging the drive into the other USB port.
If possible, include a picture to show the correct port.

This would help put a stop to the hundreds of people asking why their USB drive isn't working after they update, or why their drive isn't detected in the first place. After all, there is a 50% chance people will see this error the first time they try plugging in their drive!

IMO, this really isn't a bad idea. At least it would give the noobs something to try before they post here and we have to ask the "obvious" questions.

They (the coders of the loaders) could also put a small note in the XML files (for homebrew channel loaders) which port to use. . . . .

yeah changing the xml would be REALLY easy, and it would fix a lot of the annoying questions that can be solved by "plug it into the other port"

What about a small pop-up (that's user controlled?) that says if the USB device isn't working, try switching ports? With a picture of the correct port to put it in?

Well, all the USB loaders I have used have an error screen that appears when no drive is detected.
All that is needed is a small change to the wording on the screen. Just a few bytes of code to change the string, which is just as easy as changing the XML.

Adding a small pic is a little more complex.

Why should everything being placed on a silver plate? What people should learn is when they want something they should read a lot about it before starting. But that's my opinion.
I'm really confused by people like you. Yes it would be good if everyone read up on it. However, a simple change like this should be made and I don't see the problem with it. Software companies goals are to make it more usable. Just adding some text to an error menu is such a simple fix for such a simple (but troublesome for people who don't know their stuff) problem to resolve.

ok. usb loader gx is now supporting these uber-noobs in their refusal to read documentation. everybody that has their drive in the correct port but still have to wait because it is slow can blame them for having to look at the ugly picture.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
I'm doing good, just made my first drink of the day, so better now, Captain and Coke today. I had to cut grass all day, then get my hair cut. I messed with my wifey, she knew I was going to get hair cut, and I went and bought a purple dyed wig, and came home wearing it, she freaked out, thinking I dyed my hair purple, was funny.

Damn, I haven't been on here in while. My wife and I went on a mushroom trip like 10 years ago. A friend had a PS3TV with the glasses and some racing game. It hit when I was playing the game and I freaked out because I thought I was really driving and crashed.
