After an Early Access period, V Rising, the action RPG survival game from Stunlock Studios, fully launches on PC today. For the occasion, a launch trailer was aired:

Survive as a newly awakened vampire in a world ruled by humans and rise to become the next Dracula. Feed on blood to gain new powers, hide from the scorching sun, and engage in real-time PvE and PvP combat set in a dark fantasy realm. Raise your castle and invite friends to join as you explore a vast open world, pillage villages, skirmish with bandits, and delve into the lairs of supernatural beasts. Attack other players’ castles or become a diplomat in a game of blood, power, and betrayal.

V Rising’s full release include:
  • Explore a new deadly endgame zone: The Ruins of Mortium
  • Experience dynamic endgame events
  • Fight the monstrous Dracula, a new breed of foe
  • Several new V Blood bosses, including the final boss: Dracula himself
  • The Legacy of Castlevania event introduces legendary vampire hunter Simon Belmont as a new boss
  • New weapons, A new tier of equipment, and magic improvements
  • Improvements to castle building, decor, and storage
  • Native, smoothly implemented gamepad support
  • Game optimization, visual improvements, and an all-around better experience!
Alongside the 1.0 update, Stunlock Studios and Konami have partnered to launch the Legacy of Castlevania event in V Rising. It allows players to challenge vampire hunter Simon Belmont and unlock the whip weapon. In addition to the free Castlevania content releasing today, the Legacy of Castlevania Premium Pack cosmetic DLC is available for purchase at 19.99 EUR/USD.

V Rising is available now on Steam for 34.99 EUR/USD, and the PlayStation 5 release date has yet to be revealed.

It's a fun survival game.
Bought it some time ago on a sale but that DLC seems a bit pricy, I think the game itself costs around the same.

I'll need to give it another try later on, too busy with Stellar Blade, Sand Land, Eiyuden Rising (replaying it on the switch before Hundred Heroes arrive) and also Sea of Stars (physical edition will arrive tomorrow).

The issue with this game in early access was that it was super easy to grief by building a single structure 1 block away from another player's base so they couldn't physically leave their house. I hope at least that had been fixed.

The DLCs are just purely cosmetic stuff you can buy to further support the devs, if you so wish.

They did fix that. Before, only the land you built on was yours. Now they changed it, so that when you place the Castle Heart (the structure that powers your castle), you basically claim the whole plot of land so no one else can build there. They also introduced stairs that lead to multiple floors, so even on small plots, you can fit in all your structures.

This game was on my wishlist for years as I was waiting for a great price to agree on. I finally grabbed and gave it a good solid play through. I decided to go solo and play on my own private world. Initially the game seemed fantastic with its visuals, theming, and gameplay but getting into 3-4 hours in, I began to notice the gameplay loop and began to lose interest.

The game becomes immensely tedious with the back and forthing with mats required to grow your base. Not to mention, the requirements are high in quantity so you'll be making multiple trips to and from resources nodes very frequently. And while traveling isn't in issue, its poor combat system feels either too simplified or undercooked -- all I had was the same 3-hit combo with maybe an element projectile to mix it up every now and again.

I wanted to enjoy this game, but damn... I'm kinda glad I had my play through during its EA than having to play its full price now. Maybe now that its out of EA, it'll tackle the issues I mentioned. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I'm also around four hours of solo play in and I feel where you're coming from. For me the game's reliance on boss fights as a means of progression is a bit of a double edged sword too though. I don't really feel like the encounters with bandit camps and other landmarks are worthwhile when they really do nothing but offer a chance for slightly rare materials. The bosses are fun, but I feel like they need more to them for the game to rely on seeking them out and fighting them as its core gameplay.

There's definitely an aspect of me being the kind of person to enjoy big number get bigger that obviously isn't being appealed to with the game, and that is fine. It's definitely different to what I expected, but I am at least enjoying it, and for the £20 or so I paid it's justifying its cost. I get the distinct impression it's also going to be magnitudes more fun when playing with a friend, which I should hopefully be doing tomorrow.

  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
i gotta say fuck captain falcon, because he's hot (no homo), marry samus, because she seems like good wife (or as BigOnYa says, wifey) material, and kill wario, because he can't die, so killing him won't really kill him

My state has put a heavy tax on vape juice, taxing any juice with nicotine by the weight/oz. So to get around the bs, my local vape store only sells 0 nicotine vape juices, then they also sell straight nicotine in tiny bottles, and you mix it yourself to your 0% juice, lol
