Well, I've tried two different routers now, a Buffalo Airstation and a Netgear DG834G. The Buffalo one was painfully slow and the Netgear one worked for a day or so before it started to act up and needed a power cycle every few minutes. Now I'm sort of stumped about which wireless DSL modem router I should get because I don't want to be sending another one back. Either those routers were rubbish or it's just bad luck

So what modem router are you using and does it work with the DS?

netgear mr814v2
it's only 802.11b for wireless, but then again, my only wireless device is my ds lite...so it wouldn't move any faster with 802.11g

i haven't had any problems for the 3 years i've had it, other than sometimes when the power flickers, i need to yank the cord...but that is rare

WRT54G V2.2 with Thibor v15c firmware. Probally the best residential/small business consumer solution out there. Works flawlessly with the DS, has great range, runs on linux so the routers firewall is /really/ good since you can manually edit the iptables, and can handle /a lot/ of load.

I would highly reccomend it to anyone. Just make sure you a version 1-2.2 wrt54g, V3/V4 are OK, and V5 just sucks since it uses a different processor and doesnt run linux. You can still purchase a v1-2.2 wrt54g at a place like bestbuy, but they renamed it to WRT54GL (L meaning Linux), or you can juse buy one of the older versions off of ebay.

No other wireless router compares, bottom line.

WRT54G v3.1 (Firmware Version: v4.71.1, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c)
I didn't know that about the Linux versions... actually I don't know about the version of this one until I looked under it.
Bought this specifically for the DS... works awesome, easy to setup.

Any WRT54G under V5 uses linux, and since you have thibor15c flashed on that means you can modify the iptables by telnetting into the router.

Ah, so I see Orc and Mchart are using Linksys routers... Great! That's exactly what I was going to try next because that's one of the top hardwares being bought on Amazon.co.uk. I had nothing else to reference because I can't seem to find any site that has updated group tests of ADSL Modem/Wireless Router reviews.

Currently I'm actually looking at the "GS" model though; "Linksys WRT54GS-UK 125 Mbps Wireless-G Broadband Router with SpeedBooster" because I want one with a built in modem too.

Netgear wgt624 v2, and it is horrible. I can connect, but once I'm connected to the server, I can't connect to certain people for some reason. When playing mario kart, I rarely get game of 4 people, usually 1 v 1 if I'm lucky! Lol.

I use the US Robotics 9106 Wireless ADSL Gateway which supports Wifig,It has a good range but I needed a range extender since my room is too far from the router. It never caused any trouble and it has a very good UI and setup.(specially for port forwarding unlike some siemens models i used which were very hard to configure). If I am going to change it,I will always get a US robotics router. That will be when Wifi N standard is finalised.(300mbps and 6x range with backward support, can't wait for that)

Cool stuff really.

Anyway, I got the WRT54G specifically and not the WRT54G** (insert letters) because of this... and it works awesome, little to no setup (on the router and the DS) and no lag at all considering I'm on 3rd-world-country internets lol...

We also have a D-Link wifi router here but I haven't tested it with the DS yet since I'm on my own router and internet connection.

Only difference between the WRT54G and the GS, is that the GS has the speedbooster which allows 125Mbps wireless links (assuming you have a wireless adapter that also supports the broadcom 'speedbooster' TM spec). And if you get a WRT54G and flash it with Thiborv15c it basically makes it a GS (Enables the speedbooster ability).

So in summary - Dont buy the GS, its overpriced and the only difference is the speedboaster (Note 'boaster') function. (Which isnt even worth it since you can flash your WRT54G thus letting it use speedbooster.

As you can see, the WRT54G is also a gateway, and when you flash your WRT54G with Thibor, it essentially makes WRT54G/S models become the same thing, since they are the same hardware.

i have a gigabyte br01g... works fine with everything i threwed at it so far: my psp, linksys pci wireless card, asus usb wireless card, various laptop models with integrated wireless... i don't own a ds yet and i never tested one, but if it works with everything else i don't see why it wouldn't work with the ds.

Thanks for the replies! The Linksys WRT54G sounds good but it doesn't have a built-in ADSL modem it seems and I'm looking for a combined solution.

Also, my Netgear DG834G is working seems to working fine now. Problem is my main computer is somehow "locked out" of the router after a certain amount of time so that it can't access the admin page or the internet. Devices connected via wireless can still access the internet however and can ping my main computer which is connected to the router by a LAN cable.

Any ideas why it could be locked out? I checked firewall rules but nothing seems to be blocking the traffic...

The one I was using was the Lynksys Wireless-G ADSL Gateway (WAG54G), plug the phone line into the router and it has the built in adsl modem as well as wireless b&g WEP, WPA ect security works great with the ds only reason not using it now is I've gone over to cable. I'm in the UK too, if you do some reaseach on it and sounds like the one for you drop me a line, it's not being used maybe we could do a deal.

Hmmm... I'll see ^^;

Why don't you try a ZyXEL Prestige 660HW61? It's a very nice router, 802.11g and ADSL2/2+ compatible

It works like a charm with NWC

Does it have a built-in modem? Just making sure because I ordered or two that says "ADSL router" but ended up not having one...

I would highly suggest getting a seperate modem, put it in bridge mode, and then use a WRT54G. Combined solutions just arent that good.
