  • I really like RPGs that let you dodge and counterattack, like in mario & luigi games. It makes it so much more engaging and adds another level or strategy while simultaneously removing a mechanic that's just RNG (hit/miss RNG that a lot of RPGs have)

Yeah. I like that it takes away the waiting time from battles, where you're just waiting for your next turn, since you're always doing something.

If you want "lets you dodge and counterattack", Super Paper Mario's platformer approach makes that quite easy to do; don't need to deal with short frame windows or anything, just move out of the way.

As for "takes away the waiting time", the Bravely Default games have a speed-up function, making battles much faster if you want it. 2x, 3x, and 4x, from memory.
More games should include either approach, honestly; they're both great for removing tedium from battles.

FOMO is a predatory business practice that more gamers should be advocating against. For example, the breakfast menu at Panera Bread ends at 10:30 AM, 3 entire hours before the average gamer wakes up
i'm actually really enjoying the ttyd remake, i tried the gamecube version like 5 or 6 times and could just never get into it, but this time around i'm actually really enjoying it. it feels a lot like origami king though... but with good combat :D not that origami king's was bad but man it got old fast

I also think I'm quite distant from the "Paper Mario elitists", really. I got into this series with the Wii VC version of PM 64, after watching chuggaaconroy's LPs of the first two games (some of his earliest LPs), then I played TTYD on GCN. Maybe I thought the games were decent, back then (though I still didn't like the Peach segments), but then I picked up Super and knew that was my favourite PM game.

I even went through the two Pits of 100 Trials present in Super, and tried to get all the catch cards and recipes, I found the game so fun, whereas I don't think I ever bothered with TTYD's Pit or recipes. Heck, my most recent playthrough of TTYD GCN, last year, I got bored and quit at the General White part (before the X-Naut base). The game just could not keep my attention.

Elden Ring is amazing. Makes me wish the souls games had some kind of easy or fair mode because I was never able to enjoy any of the earlier soulslike games due to hating how unfair they felt

Tell me about it; because items are wholly disabled, and benches no longer restore MP, magic of any kind cannot be spammed in Hard - if you run out, you have to wait for it to slowly regen, instead of just using an Ether. The disabled-items restriction also makes vending machines and treasure chests largely worthless, as well. Not a fan of this, nope.

Due to this, the "best" way to heal mid-combat is the inconsistent Chakra (heals up to 40% of remaining damage - so the closer you get to full HP, the less it heals you), or Pray, which consumes 2 ATB bars (and thus can't be spammed). Cure spells can be used too...if you have spare MP, that is.

And since everything has inflated HP numbers, especially bosses, fights take much longer to finish and are thus much more frustrating, especially with them hitting so much harder and far more frequently as well. Heck, being stun-locked by attacks is much more common than in Easy/Normal, just adding to the pain.

@x65943 the only reason I actually started duolingo is because years ago you put a post on your profile about your duolingo streak and I thought "huh that would be cool to have" :rofl2:

i feel like i learned nothing in the last 900 days of it though

It's a really great way to start learning a language from scratch, but I learned myself you have to pivot to other things once you get a grasp of the language

Ultimately producing and receiving the language are paramount - I use an app called hellotalk to practice Chinese - there are probably similar spaces for any target language

Reading simple graded readers was also super helpful to me
What would happen if I were to, hypothetically, create 17.3 billion GBAtemp accounts simultaneously

I'd have no idea how to write that script - I don't know any programming languages - but in theory that sounds possible, at least to me.

you'd have to make 17.3 billion different e-mail adresses at that.
It's not just GBAtemp accounts one needs to create ; )

Assuming 1000 accounts per second (very generous), it would take ~200days of nonstop hammering of the database to create that much.
Although, I think disk space issues would soon arise before reaching half-way.

I still need to do my move from Windows to Linux soon cause now the brains of all of them are now tied to AI and implementing it inside of Windows.
