DLC-sized mod "Fallout: London" delayed ahead of Fallout 4's next-gen update

Fallout: London, the upcoming "DLC-sized" mod for Fallout 4, will be delaying its release indefinitely after Bethesda announced Fallout 4's next-gen update will release April 25. Fallout: London, like many Fallout 4 mods, relies on the Fallout 4 Script Extender to work, and the next-gen update is expected to break its functionality. In a new video released over the weekend, project lead Dean Carter says that “the past four years of our work stand to just simply break” with the new update. “It's simply not just the case of blocking the updates and hoping for the best,” added Carter. “If you don't do it properly, it'll also break, and we can't just ask you to drag things back in time.”

Fallout: London was expected to release April 23, meaning it would have only been available for two days before the new update arrived. Unfortunately, because the team that works on the Script Extender mod is not a part of the Fallout: London team, Carter does not know when those fixes will be available and thus cannot provide a new release date for Fallout: London.

Carter also announced that the mod - expected to weigh in at around 30-40GB, and thus too large to be distributed through Nexus Mods - will be released with the assistance of GOG. It will function with the Steam and GOG versions of the game, and possibly the Epic Games Store version as well. More details on exactly how this release and how installation will work will come after all the details are worked out (and the mod is fixed and ready to release, of course).

Ultimately, Carter remained positive about the next-gen update and the mod's situation overall, believing the improvements to the game's engine will benefit Fallout: London.

Fallout: London began development in 2019 as a "small quest mod," but over the years has ballooned into one of the biggest and most ambitious mods in the Fallout community. According to its official website, the map's size is about the same as Far Harbor, one of Bethesda's official DLC expansions. It will include its own original storyline, voice acting, factions, weapons, armour - Carter describes it as being almost like a new game. More details, with extensive update videos and developer diaries, can be found on their YouTube channel.

Really hoping they fixed some of the major bugs from the previous gen. Not being able to continue the story and having a permanent head injury that heavily obscures VATS is the main reason I quit playing shortly starting.

If you play on PC, you could fix it with commands, and afak it also was part of the unofficial patch which is on consoles.
Bear in mind, that most likely the update will not fix that bug in your savefile and only fix it in new saves (if it even fixes it), just as the unofficial patch does.

Why do I feel as if this was absolutely deliberately done by Bethesda? I've read the patch notes for the upcoming "update", and to say it is underwhelming would be an understatement. All of what that update is supposed to add/fix, can and has been done by mods already for a long time. Not only that, but mods that have fixed plenty of critical game breaking bugs, even some really small or rarely occuring ones will break with this shit update that doesn't even add DLSS/FSR/XESS (but guess what does add support for DLSS/FSR/XESS: mods). This also goes for all of my favourite mods, many of which aren't being updated anymore and thus have a 50/50 chance of breaking or running (many likely breaking).

The game is done, Bethesda, modders have taken over to do what you could not or refused to do, so fucking leave it at that and let us deal with it.

The update's nothing but them incorporating their new creation club to cash in on other peoples mods, all other Bethesda games will follow suit.

They literally could have released the mod as a Collection in parts on Nexus (if they wanted). But convincing Steam/GOG is sexier for their portfolio.

wouldn't releasing it for nexus be a hassle for everyone involved? Nexus's download speed is abysmal if you don't have premium lol

I have Lifetime Premium (thanks to old mods), but free users are capped to 3MB/s max, so 120GB would take them less than half a day. With my Collection suggestion, having to click to download each mod/part would be the largest nuisance for free users. I suppose they had single file sizes larger than the Nexus max and/or didn't want to ask them for an exception.

I never came close to those speeds but I just found out that blocking ads reduces your download speed lol, I find that dumb but I can understand it, they need to make money somehow. Based on that I guess the real hassle would just be having to download multiple parts since Nexus doesn't impose a max daily download. So you might be right that it could a portfolio thing.
