Underneath the battery of my $5 'clone' is what appears to be a warranty sticker:

The text on it machine translates to "void if ripped". There are spots and marks on the paper which seem to suggest some age.

I'm guessing that the sticker was meant to be hand marked -- 08 or 09 for year, 1 to 12 for month. For context, the DSOne SDHC was released in '07.

As for what's underneath -- not much.

You know, I've been wondering if these AliExpress carts are legit or clone. But given the state and possible year, my belief would weigh towards the former. After all, why would a cheap generic adaptor from AliExpress need a warranty sticker?

Anyway, I'm curious to see that of other clones and legit carts, perhaps if anyone is so kind.

At least for now the clones are still there... that much we can know.

[Edit] Upon recollection, this one wasn't from AliExpress, but it had a similar listing.

08/09 indicates the year it was produced, and 1-12 for the month which is usually blotted.

Looks to maybe be the last batch of DSOne SDHC carts, doesn't look to be a fake here.

Thanks, SylverReZ. It's reassuring to see someone else shares the same view.

I wonder if we could estimate a manufacture date from the lot codes on the chips used. I was able to find a data sheet for the SST flash chip but it doesn't contain any information on decoding the lot id. I haven't had any luck with the Silicon7 RAM.
boots_n_cats, have you tried checking underneath the button cell? Perhaps the key to your puzzle is there.

I have now. It's the same sticker as OP. I'm convinced the DSONE carts from AliExpress were new old stock from 15 years ago. The 08/09 year makes sense because they aren't the DSi version of the cart.

In any event, the stock of them seems to have run out as they no longer appear on AliExpress.

There's a dedicated page made many years ago to determine whether a DSONE is real or fake via photos.
Note that the site is in Spanish, but you can clearly make out everything.

Ancient clones, huh. Call it a hunch, but that'd sure be a convenient goat for Team SuperCard if they ever made some bad carts.

Anyway, reminds me of how there're two versions of the Ace3DS X sticker, each slightly different. (The one with the more fiery X being unavailable.)

Most probably, right?

Actually, I saw a single AliExpress listing pop up briefly, as though grasping desperately before sinking back into the darkness of the abyss. But yeah. You might still find it in your local stores though.

It seems that second hand DSOne SDHCs are less available (if at all) compared to AK2is and R4s. Safe to assume that eventually, these clones will be missed.

(Recently I located an Ak2i that isn't two weeks worth of food but will have to cross the border for... where have the clones gone??/)
