Hacking USB Loader GX

The Wii's usb port was not designed to power portable hard drives.
This is true, however, I didnt had any issue with power loss on 2,5 hard drives and SSDs with the Wii. On 3,5 hard drives, sure, because they require 12v which the usb port doesnt provide, but any 2,5 external drive worked fine in my experience. The Wii U is truly annoying with this for some reason, if the drive is not externally powered or at least it is not connected with an Y cable it spins up and down because of power loss.

The Wii U is truly annoying with this for some reason, if the drive is not externally powered or at least it is not connected with an Y cable it spins up and down because of power loss.
The WiiU`s USB Ports are limited and secured to max 500mA output with electronic components. This can be overrun by soldering cables over this components (check our forum). The Wii is not that kind limited and provide some more power on the USB ports.

I hadn't touched my hacked wii for a year or so. Started it up and everything worked. But thought it was best to update usb loader gx, cios (cIOS d2x-v11 beta1) and nintendont. So I tried, I think I managed. I can see all my games (GC+Wii) in usb loader gx and wii games work but GC just gets black screen. But if i launch nintendont via HBC they work perfect. If i rememder correct the IOS 58 wich Nintendont uses need to be one of latest version, else it might give issues with USBLGX. Your on Sysmenu 4.1E and have IOS 58, so if you dont had installed it manually, its from a game that installed it once. Latest Sysmenu is 4.3 which also comes with latest IOS 58. If wish to stay below 4.3 there exist a installer, which insatlles last previous version of IOS 58 (not latest).

Your on Sysmenu 4.1E and have IOS 58, so if you dont had installed it manually, its from a game that installed it once. Latest Sysmenu is 4.3 which also comes with latest IOS 58. edit: Did update to 4.3E and IOS 58 (with this guide - https://wii.guide/update.html) and then reinstalled HBC, but unfortunately same result.

Whats the GC game path and used format? ISO is recommended. Check here and best use GC Backup Manager to verify the image is not corrupted and will be copied to correct game path automatically, As USBLGX needs a specific game path with game ID, which Nintendont doesnt require.
Are you launching USB Laoder GX through the Forwarder Channel or HBC?

//EDIT: Nintendont version is latest v6.500 ?
And check all Nintendont settings inside USBLGX, e.g. if forcing some video mode is turned on or patch is activated.

I'm running usb1:/games/Title [Game ID]/game.iso. Since it worked before all the updating I've tried to do I don't think there are anything wrong with the games or the path? I've tried both launching through HBC and forwarder channel. Yes nintendont is 6.500. I've also tried a lot of different video modes. I have to force PAL60 in nintendont to not get red tint, can it be somewhat of a clue? Hm..

Edit! Found something just maybe worth of interest! In Loader settings under Nintendont>GameCube Source it says Auto (null) and also Main path has this null after...does this 'null' mean it can't find it anyway? But in the same way the path is 100% correct in custom paths to where the games are. Tried Main Path/SD Path and didn't work either.

Hello to all.

Usb loader gx currently supports force games to: PAL50, NTSC, PAL60, Region patch, NTSC480p, PAL480p.

Is there a way to force 576p 50Hz(PAL576p) ?

A lot of games would improve because of resolution and being 50Hz would not degrade experience too much.
it's the kind of improvement I'd like to see, in addition to making more NGC games work in progressive, now it's working RE Zero, 2 and 3 in progressive, I'd like the rest

I understand this would be a time-consuming endeavor and much of the loader's settings are self-explanatory, but there are still things I don't understand in the settings -- obviously I'm not making demands for a manual, I'm just expressing that I would find one useful and would greatly appreciate it, but again I understand if there's just not interest in or time for making one.

no problem with partitions as long as NGC's is fat 32 and Wii WBF

No, you've somehow misunderstood me, I don't mean HDD partitions and their filesystems, I mean the disc image, like from the physical Wii game disc that comes in a case and you insert it into your console to play the game.

Each Wii game disc contains the game data, but it also often contains update data (installing a new IOS or new system menu, if your Wii isn't up to date yet and you don't have internet), as well as a bunch of "junk" data (the reason each 1:1 disc dump for single-layer discs is the same size, even for the Super Mario All-Stars release -- a game considerably less than 4.7GB in size on the SNES). The update data is a different partition than the game data, and this is the term used internally in USB Loader GX when looking to use it to dump discs (though I believe CleanRip is preferred).

My question is specifically about Wii games and the data that can optionally be removed. My assumption is that it's fine to use just the game partition because I've never seen anyone say otherwise, so for example instead of having to use Wii Backup Manager to split every single game for a FAT32 partition you can just put the 18MB .wbfs file for Super Mario All-Stars on the hard drive and save over 4GB of space, but what I was wondering is if there are any examples of known issues in any Wii games caused by this removal of data from the backup of the disc, simply because in Nintendont's case that compatibility layer can have issues with ISOs that aren't 1:1 full disc dumps depending on the game, even when using the recommended tools for reducing the size of the ISO.

Ah, now I understand, you meant in iso compression, I don't do iso compression because of the possibility of giving errors

Hi there, just checking if there is a beta or pre-release to test fowarders that load games with data on USB (single rom loaders in particular). Appreciate all the work and help on this thread.

I finally just reinstalled pretty much everything from the beginning via ModMii and now it works just perfect. I might have a clue though to why it happened and it could be as simple as turning off VIDTV Patch. I think i tried that but just noticed now with my new setup that if that is On I get the same problems as before.

I believe it's safe to remove the update partition on most games, although I haven't personally put that to the test.

Maybe in the future, but right now I don't have the time.

I have modified the file to add the titleID of my game as argument (that allow me to autoboot my game on usbloaderGX startup).

It works well, the first time, but once I go back from the game to Wii System Menu, when I tried a secondth time to start usbloadeGX, my game does not autoboot. It seems the meta.xml has been changed and my argument is lost. The file become like that :

ok, so a minor thing, and apologies if this is known or doesn't belong here (as i am running off vWii), but my USB Loader GX (3.0 r1281) doesn't display/update my external's free space accurately (Fat 32; y-cable; correct ports; all games running fine).

the Sync to Fat option does not work, however, if i exit to CFG Loader and use its Sync FS command then the free space is corrected and shows the right amount in USB Loader GX... until another title is installed/uninstalled, and free space doesnt update.
