You can remove the ezfla_update.bin file or whatever it is called.
I'd leave it there. IIRC, if you turn on the console while holding R, the EZIV will attempt to update its firmware, but it doesn't check that the file exists before erasing the installed version.
So if you remove the file, you run the risk of holding R at boot one day, erasing the firmware by accident, and having no way to recover until you get to a computer and put the file back.

Nope, it'll skip over the update. Maybe the ezflash team changed the behavior at some point.

I tried it just for kicks. Running 2.03. Removed the ezfla_up.bin file from the root of the SD card and booted while holding R.

Find_ezfla_up.bin, updating
Eraseing_OK

Write_complete

Restart
No_Loader_found

fat initial 1

Just as I thought, I was unable to boot again, until I placed the file in the root of the card and updated.

Weird, I did the same and it would simply skip the update screen entirely

Unfortunately there are a couple of revisions of the EZ IV Micro SD where part of the kernel would be wiped if you pressed 'R' on boot regardless of whether the "ezfla_up.bin" update file is on the micro SD or not, effectively destroying the kernel and meaning a re-flash is required. It's clear you have one of these revisions. The bug was never fixed in these revisions, so I would recommend leaving the "ezfla_up.bin" update file permanently on the micro SD card as a precaution (in case you accidentally press 'R' on boot). Also, if you use 'soft-reset' make sure you don't use the 'R' button in any reset combination.
The latest revision of the EZ IV Micro SD doesn't have this bug.

Skin has been updated to version 2.04 of the kernel. Due to me not having an EZ-Flash Reform this has been untested on this new EZ-Flash model. My guess is that it should work but I can not confirm nor deny that claim.

Feel free to send me an EZ-Flash Reform cart if you want me to test it :P

so despite compatibility for the new card, there is nothing new? guess this one can be passed then. ;)
And I don't even know if the skin works on the new card [emoji39]

But I suffer from what is known as "versionitis" - I can't stand running software that is not the latest available version :D

Thanks for the update.

Would be great to start getting a list of games together that don't work with GSS (both patched and unpatched).
Original Lego Star Wars game didn't work for me (both patched and unpatched), and both 007 games didn't work for me (patched) with GSS enabled. A pain in the butt but I'll just go down the list and add them one by one as I find which ones don't work.

I guess I'll inevitably end up making the entire list myself, actually, since I'm going through the entire library, so I suppose in that case, I'll likely post it once I get that done (sometime this month, hopefully).

I can confirm that the 2.04 kernel, as well as the Flat IV work on the EZ-Flash Reform. Thank you for this-- it really makes the product feel a little more modern, and thus a little higher quality.

I can't get the 2.04 theme to work on the older "clear" version of the EZF4. Just shows a black screen and nothing happens. I flashed to the stock 2.04 BIN and it works fine. (Upgraded from 1.72... lol. Yeah just found my GBM in a random box in the garage. After realizing the newer firmware supports direct loading to SD cards and 32gb SDXC cards.) Loaded up a game, played, saved, all that jazz on the stock skin. But trying to flash this skin doesn't seem to boot the firmware upgrade message. ALl I see is the standard black screen but no white update text like it should display.

Any ideas? Does it only work with the newer black version of the EZF4? Should I just go with the 2.03V you posted? Is there any reason to run 2.04 over 2.03 for my card?

Edit: Actually I tried the 2.03V as well, and same thing just a full black screen instead of seeing update text....

Try a different SD card. As far as I know all the models should be compatible with the skin.

I have a theory that you ca not use a SDHC card on the white models to update the firmware. Try a non-SDHC card.

This has been my experience as well - updating from firmware pre-SDHC support requires a non SDHC card.
