clear and precise tutorial!

(note to myself: the standard theme was really so bright?; the obvious question why CHBC saves you is answered in the comments under the video -> I should finally install haxchi)

Thanks! I appreciate it. Added a pinned comment describing how CBHC can fix your brick.

Hey so I made a dark theme based on the Wii U Plugin System's dark mode but the wara wara doesn't have that annoying look and some other buttons are also actually dark this time instead of just being the default colours.

ORIGINAL POST:
So this can be a thing now, how exciting is that? Thanks to @CafeCentralUI and his thread here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/released-rosalina-theme-installer-for-wii-u.588203/ the information is now out there on what files need to be altered to create our own themes on the Wii U. While his thread isn't so much a tutorial as it is a guiding hand on where to look to create themes, there was enough info there for me to make a pretty cool theme for my Wii U, not only do I want to show it off, but I wanna share it so that you can download and use it too, and hopefully in time more and more themes can be added and shared in this thread, for example I may do a proper dark theme next if someone else doesn't do it themselves. I recognize that without a proper guide telling you which parts you want to edit and in what way to alter whatever parts of the Wii U menu, there probably wont be a lot of people trying this yet, but if I see enough demand, I could be the one to make a proper tutorial on what info is where (it's all scattered in so many places, that going back to recall what is where sounds like a nightmare).

Regardless, here's my first theme, I call it Vaporwave Summer:

(if you're curious about repopulating the Wara Wara Plaza, find my thread on how to do so)

Another look at the bottom to show the minor changes I made to the folder creation tiles:

Now, before I provide the download link I just want to say, that for now, you should probably only use this in SDCafiine, taking the included Men.pack and Men2.pack files and putting them in the following location:

US: sdcafiine/0005001010040100/content/Common/Package/
EU: sdcafiine/0005001010040200/content/Common/Package/
JPN: sdcafiine/0005001010040000/content/Common/Package/

Theoretically this should be able to be implemented via FTPiiU as a permanent theme, and I've had no issue overwriting the Wara Wara Plaza on a permanent level before. But I tried this and it yielded issues, issues that scared me for a moment that I may have had a brick (thankfully it wasn't and I was able to recover, but not without a few minutes of fearing I had lost everything), it could just be my FTP client on the computer, but whatever it is, I feel lucky that I was able to get back to the standard menu theme without issue. Perhaps I'll try again later, since I was able to recover I think I know what it would take to properly overwrite without failure, but I'm incredibly hesitant to do so. Point is, seriously beware if you're gonna try and make a theme permanent, SDCafiine meanwhile is risk free and works like a charm.

GOING PERMANENT EDIT: You can go permanent, but I had to kinda cheese the ftp client by hitting overwrite like 3 times before hitting skip when transferring the file for each file to properly transfer. Go permanent at your own risk, you can read in detail what I went through to make it happen. Others had no issue though so it may just be the ftp client on my PC that was the issue. I don't know. Regardless, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT IF YOU DON'T HAVE CBHC INSTALLED, YOU CAN EASILY BRICK DOING THIS, BUT CBHC CAN SAVE YOU FROM THIS KIND OF BRICK (it saved me)

HOW CAN I MAKE ONE?!
I have a rough spreadsheet I've been working from that makes it clear to me what I need to do, though it's not the most thoroughly explained at this point.

I'll share it here: Men.pack and Men2.pack feature locations

And if anyone wants to take a stab at their own theme with that info, have at it. I do intend to make it a bit more clear in the future, but it should be enough info for anyone to figure out what I was doing.
Rosalina Theme Installer 1.1
Permanent theme installer.

The themes on Wii U use two files, put them in the following paths:

Men.pack in 'wiiu/rosalina/install/Men.pack'
Men2.pack in 'wiiu/rosalina/install/Men2.pack'

There is a separate installer for each file, you can combine themes.
It's time to give your console a new style !!!

Today I come bearing a new take on a theme. This one, I'm calling the Photo Negative theme, consider it the inverse of the Dark Theme - White variation, I feel like it came out really nice. I considered calling it the Oreo theme, either name feels fitting to me. I still intend to do a couple more dark themes, but I really wanted to do this one next.

Now that there are so many bases to start with, I've found that I can much more quickly churn out themes now. This one was made in maybe 5 minutes after starting with the photo negative theme as a base. I could quickly now create a ton of different variations with the bases I've created. And I may do that, though I still want to create a couple more bases like a dark blue or teal as I've mentioned before. All the same, at this point, the ability to create new themes can be streamlined considerably if you use any of my released themes so far as a base. Again, like this guy:

Hey so I made a Pretendo Network inspired theme and I'm pretty close to being done with it, I don't have much more I need to do and tbh it might even be done now I'm not sure. Because it's in such a close to being finished state I thought I might as well post it now. So here you go ;)

Note: Not only is the menu itself region specific but the actual text is language specific per region. This means the conditions to get the language replacement that I included would require you to have a US Console that's language is set to US English. To port to other regions shouldn't be a hard process and same with porting to specific languages but for the moment it's only for what I mentioned above.

Wow this looks incredible. @MikaDubbz anyway you could update your current themes with the user page colored like this?

Probably, again that's a part of the Wii U I literally never see, so I never really bothered to look into it. Thing is, you can just keep going, the home screen that pops up when you hit home can be altered too within a different file, the user setting menu can also be adjusted in another file. I've made too many themes at this point for it to be something I'm particularly interested in going back and changing these things for every theme.

But these are all also totally moddable to your own desires, if there is a theme I've released you want to add any of that stuff to, feel free to give it a go yourself.

I'm so pumped, NCAA football video game is back after a 10 year hiatus, coming to SeriesS/X, PS5 in July.
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Wish they would let us play the NCAA football 14 on newer xbox, its one of the only games I love and own on disc still, that is not back compatible, bs.

@BigOnYa My dad recently bought a spare Series X off of me, got game pass, and saw Madden '24 on Game Pass, decided to try it out.

...He was a bit taken aback by the 60GB download size. Poor guy's still living in the 90s!

@K3Nv2 He was looking into consoles for his house anyway (for my younger siblings and himself) and I had a spare XSX and Switch I ended up selling him at pretty steep cuts. I would just give them to him, but I did buy them with the intent to sell them... and college is super expensive.
