Hi, I have many problems with my new 3ds xl. I will list them below:
1. Sometimes it doesn’t turn on and will show a red notification light
2. I get a lot of crashes where it says something about arm 11
3. Sometimes on startup the touchscreen won’t work and the circle pad will be having crazy stick drift
Is this a hardware problem is or it to do with the cfw? I would be very pleased with any answers as I would like to have this working properly again. Thanks!

It says things like unexpected instruction and prefex error abort or something along those lines
Specific error messages/screenshots would be helpful, as well as what applications/games/circumstances are causing the crashes

Red notification light? Not the red light when the 3DS has low battery?
3. Sometimes on startup the touchscreen won’t work and the circle pad will be having crazy stick drift
Hardware issue 100%. 3DS circle pads get bad drift after a while. Use a duster or replace the circle pad. As for the screen, could be a loose connection or dead spots. CFW doesn't cause issues like these.

Just had a look at other posts and people say it could be caused by dust on the screen.

Definitely notification light. It turns off automatically after showing it.

Sometimes it is immediately after booting into Home Screen. One of the main apps that causes it is ace attorney trilogy. I will try and get pictures.

The thing is, if it was dust on the screen, it would always be unresponsive. It wouldn't be "sometimes" unresponsive. It's pretty difficult to imagine any problem that would only manifest "sometimes" except for a weird hardware flaw.

You were asked for specific error messages, not "similar errors"! Small differences can mean entirely different things when it comes to diagnosing issues such as this!

In any case, SD card failure is a likely cause of a lot of mysterious things (but absolutely won't cause circle pad drift or touchscreen problems). Connect the SD card to your PC, copy everything off the SD card with Roadkil's Unstoppable Copier, format the card, test the empty card with h2testw, and copy everything back if the test is okay. If the test fails, you will need to get a new card.

Those images are VERY different things. PM is a error for the DS firm. and the other means something different from that. You cannot go by similar as they are all likely different.

Hello and welcome to GBAtemp, @Lime_Cupboard
Your description doesn't sound good. → :(

1. Sometimes it doesn’t turn on and will show a red notification light
This sounds like a hardware problem. Red notification and not turning on is B9S saying both copies of boot.firm are corrupted. As they can't be sometimes corrupted and sometimes not when changing nothing, there is probably something else wrong.

2. I get a lot of crashes where it says something about arm 11
Random crashes at different points possibly with different errors?
A software related error will normally happen at the exact same point every time. (Every boot, every time starting a certain game, every time reaching a certain point in a game,…)

3. Sometimes on startup the touchscreen won’t work and the circle pad will be having crazy stick drift
Diagonal movement on Home Menu as if the circle pad was held constantly can be caused by defective or missing circle pad hardware. Yes, having the circle pad disconnected makes the courser go all over the place.
Touchscreen randomly not working could be indeed caused by dirt or by defective touch panel.

However, I'm not convinced the third part is actually related to malfunction in circle pad and digitizer as there could be something else seriously wrong. Reconnecting both parts could be an option, especially if there has been some kind of hit/drop on the console.

You could revert to stock firmware and see if the problems are still present to eliminate the cfw being the source of all these troubles. But like all people above I don't think it's the cfw causing the problems. Good luck!

:(

Hopefully you realize that this idea carries some risks.
I fail at seeing the appeal of the removal of all tools which can be used for troubleshooting. Still this idea never disappears.

If one wants to test a if Luma3DS is to blame it is easily possible to boot without it once instead of uninstalling B9S.

I will try doing this to the 3ds. I couldn’t post my errors as it was working at that time, but when it does do them I will post a photo. Would the crash dumps be useful as I have saved quite a few of them?

I have the results. It says 0 errors detected

also, the problems with the cfw seem to have stopped. Now the only problems is that sometimes when I turn it on the touchscreen and circle pad will be acting strange.

Did you miss the several posts from people who said that this wasn't a problem with cfw!?

If you're not going to bother reading people's posts, then there's not much point in posting.

Now the only problems is that sometimes when I turn it on the touchscreen and circle pad will be acting strange.
A solution was already suggested. But it remains very strange that you would only see this "sometimes".

However, I'm not convinced the third part is actually related to malfunction in circle pad and digitizer as there could be something else seriously wrong. Reconnecting both parts could be an option, especially if there has been some kind of hit/drop on the console.

The problems with cfw were that I kept getting errors when trying to run some apps, so you clearly didn’t read my post about that

If I did need to reattach the connectors for the circle pad and digitizer would you recommend any guides?

For one thing, you never said what the actual errors were and only posted other people's "similar errors".

And secondly, even though the errors bring up the Luma crash handler, that is merely the result and the actual cause could be a number of different things completely unrelated to cfw.

What other information would you need to help me then?
