Hacking Bricked Acekard 2i

I decided to try playing some DS today and found out it wouldn't boot my AK2i.
I'm running it on a DSL and it shows up as a game with no name and no title. After selecting it, both screens turn white and nothing happens. I've tried flashing the firmware but it gets stuck at "Progress 0%". I've had this acekard 2i for probably over a year now and it should have already had this firmware update installed.
I have an Acekard 2 and that works perfectly fine, however I want to get my AK2i working.

The updater shows my AK2i with a Chip id of 0fc2, HWid of 8181, and I bought this from DealExtreme a while ago.
I've also tried the paper trick and the R4i updater with the same results.

Are you running the DSl updater from the AK2 then swapping for the 2i?
