DSi Mode is here!! -- but missing NAND, SD read/write after slot-1 access, dsi-ware decryption, etc.

if you mean that the hacked DSI Mode may get access to the two CPU Cores and the PICA GPU, I highly doubt it. I'm sure, that Nintendo know what to do for protecting, at least this time - like Sony did for ps3 which got just hacked after 5 years - their new Console, the old system was just a mess and had almost no protection...yea, yea, I know, hackers can hack everything...we will see. I wonder if they still use the same Cartridges, as far as I remember they had 1 year ago a new patent for a card looking like a PCEngine thing.

The PS3 was released just over 4 years ago.

no difference. 4 years no hack = 4 years much money
Nintendo knows how to protect, they were even one of the first to implement it in the 8-bit generation (NES10).
Im sure next console and the 3DS will be well protected, its a matter of money how good you want to implement those things, Big N lost a lot of money on the DS, so they wont make this mistake again.

I think we don't need a flashcard. The hackers will focus on 3DS because it interested them. Then maybe we can play 3DS games on the SD card, like the PSP. But maybe we just modify the system files like the Wii, so unlike the CFW on PSP, the CFW don't need to load into ram all the time, so the ram will free for gaming.

I'll answer this one differently. We don't need a 3DS flashcart. Not because the ones on the market suffice, but because both the 3DS and DSi could have been hacked without one in the first place.

3DS and DSi have a SD slot and that's all you would need to play your games on. My support is for a 3DS hack more in line with PS3/Wii hacks of modifying the firmware, and using existing storage capabilities, without the need of a flashcart.

It would be possible to craft a custom fw that can run games off the SD slot, then pass it to the 3DS as a phony firmware update. All one needs is a wireless router, and the 3DS' DNS set to one's own PC on the router LAN, such as 192.168.0.2, and the PC could be running the hack. The PC then would spoof the official nintendo DNS and trick the 3DS to connect to it thinking it's the official nintendo WFC and send the update.

This still requires hacking the 3DS encryption and possibly digital signatures aswell in order to make the update look legit.
Aha! Finally another plausible method.

Only problem: we'd need a copy of a 3DS/DSi firmware update. Don't see that happening any time soon, unless somehow one could intercept the traffic going between your router and the 3DS/DSi.

I'm thinking it would be much easier to wait for a game that has connectivity between 3DS and Wii then have the Wii transmit a file that causes a buffer overflow, just like the Twilight Hack caused a buffer overflow using an altered save, but since the 3DS's save data probably won't be stored on external media like the Wii, it makes more sense to transmit the data from a hacked Wii to the 3DS.

Since the 3D Slider is manual, there might be hope for hackers now that DSi mode was hacked.
that's something you need to explain.
what in the world does dsi mode has to do with the 3ds?

edit: and i doubt 3ds uses same encryption(flaws) as the dsi, so yes we would definitely need some pro hackers working on the 3ds, when it comes out

If that was so easy, then why is there no PSP CF that uses this?

Because it isn't possible. Same reason your 3DS virus isn't possible (in that way) either.

Edit: Or any console (Wii, PS3 for example).
There are/have been VERY capable people working on hacking these consoles.

NUS has dsi firmware.

You need to decrypt some keys for every single step of what that fellow posted.
It's pretty impossible.

As long as I can play pirated games for free, that's what hacking's all about.
Since 3DS games are likely going to be expensive, I'd say it's very important that there be 3DS flash carts.

... All of you are saying things but... we don't have the 3DS.... yet...

We can say anything but if we don't have the 3DS to test we can't do anything...

So the only thing we can do now is wait.

Wasn't it cited that 3DS games would be 8gb tops? that would mean that the 3DS flashcarts needa support 1TB SD Cards...

wonder if they actually mean gigabyte, or gigabit... if i remember correctly, 8 gigabit would only be about one gigabyte. i think, four times the size of the largest DS games, right?

Well judging on the countless websites discussing the issue + gbatemps news scene.

They're talking gigabytes.

No, the largest DS game size is 512 megabytes. Thus making 1 gigabyte only double the largest DS.

http://3ds.nintendolife.com/news/2010/12/3...ch_a_mighty_8gb
QUOTEManufacturer Macronix has confirmed that the game cartridges will start at 1GB capacity and run all the way up to a massive 8GB of storage, a huge increase over the DS, which currently offers 512MB as its largest available cartridge.
(Here's a quick reference for megabyte vs megabit: megabyte is MB, and megabit is Mb. Keep an eye out for capitalization.)

However, I don't know where I read this, but isn't Nintendo making the gamesize limit lower than that? I could almost swear I read somewhere that 3DS games were limited by Nintendo to 2gb or 4gb or somethin. Anyone got a source on that?

Its Flashcarts* not cards, the word "cart" comes from the name "cartridge" which is what we call the DS games, so if a emulating device were to come (which they did), it would be Flashcart not Flashcard.

On-Topic:- We don't really need Flashcarts, 3DS will be fine without any piracy stuff on it. I doubt it'll get hacked that easily, and since Nintendo are aware that the 3DS is gonna provide them a gold mine, they will take every action to combat piracy this time around.
