E3 2023 has officially been canceled

asdsa,l;vf (1).png

After years of not taking place, 2023 was supposed to be the glorious return of E3. That is no longer the case, as the ESA has just officially canceled E3 2023. Despite PAX organizer Reedpop taking over the event, game companies kept adamantly announcing that they would be skipping E3, with Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, SEGA, Ubisoft, and Tencent all pulling out months before the event was set to take place. For now, it looks like most will be showcasing their upcoming games in their own digital event, or in the recently established Summer Games Fest.

I do kind of hate to see it but let's be honest, this will definitely be the death of E3. The event has been getting increasingly irrelevant year after year and people are looking more towards the online presentations that companies like Sony and Nintendo have been doing for years now.

End of an era.

Who here remembers reading about the Consumer Electronics Show, or CES, in Nintendo Power Magazine, with Howard Phillips up there in his snazzy red bow tie?

Never get old. That's my life advice.

I get why some many people say that they expected this but what I don't get is people mocking at how this happened.

Yes, the last two E3 events we got were lame, but it doesn't mean that the show was some kind worthless or something.
Thanks to the E3, we lived many iconic moments in gaming history, it was truly THE EVENT FOR GAMING, and now seeing it replaced by TGA just makes me sad, as the later feels more like as a giant AD than a show were companies show what are their best of the best things to show and amaze their fans.

I too get why it has been cancelled, as the big three moved to livestream format to showcase their news, but that makes me sad, and the E3 will be missed in its forming glory:

It's a different generation thing. Eary 2000s before internet were just great fun, mainly becasue I was there as well. Also you couldn't get any infos on new games from anywhere else apart the gaming magazines that were there doing coverage.

It was an experience, the games, the shows, the booth babes (yeah sue me. I like them), the after parties. Oh yeah the galons of water I had to drink to combat the heat too. You also get a bunch of free stuff, just because you have the press badge on you lol.

bro the early 2000s are not "pre-internet" that's the early 90s *at best*
what the hell are you on because I don't think it's legal even in Portugal

If you didn't see this coming then you were either blind and deaf, or living under a rock, off the grid ever since COVID 🙄🤷🏽‍♂.

E3 was relevant when you only really had access to magazines. In the modern era of everything steaming Nintendo was right to ditch E3 in favor of Nintendo Direct. Really at such an event whose really getting anything outta it?? Maybe the event holders and the venue holding it? It held purpose, but just like G4TV it's the end of that era.

E3 could still be great if the likes of Nintendo didn’t choose to have their Directs so frequently. We live in an age of everything leaking so nothing is a surprise anymore and plenty of other expos and events are out to try the newest hardware and software that E3 became redundant.

WHAT?!!!? What will happen to the Direct? Why would they still cancel E3 even though the pandemic is gone? And the important question, WHAT ABOUT MY RHYTHM PARADISE?!?:cry::cry:

With the amount of trash it was, everyone saw this coming at least since 2019.
It wasn't even "cringe funny," it became just sad. Not to downplay the earlier conferences, but the latest were... sad.
