Hi!
I have the Ez flash Jr updated to fw.5 and using a class 10, 16Gb micro sd card. When i boot my Gameboy color, it stucks at the Loading...Osinit...screen.
I tried to format the sd, tried to use the ez flash jr with another devices (gba, gba sp...) but it still the same.
Please help, does anybody know how to fix it?

At the download page, I wrote a note about the SD card speed will cause the halt issue.

You can check your private message. I'd sent a recovery tool to you.

hi i have a similuar problem when using mt gameboy pocke after a game is loaded annd i press reset on the cart to return to game selection it gets stuck at the loading... however if i do a power cycle it allows me to boot it as normal and select another game. i can not recreate this issue on the gbc, gba, or gba sp as when i press the reset on those handhelds it returns to the game selection screen as expected. Is this a known issue with the gameboy pocket or am I possibly doing somethinng wrong. Thanks

No, not yet. I've tried many ways but no hope. I'm using the recovery tool same as you did.
damn, it's very frustrating, I've spoken to the EZFlash team quite a lot and all they say is "keep trying" I've tried it dozens of times, different SD cards, gameboys, ect to no avail, very frustrating. good luck with yours, and if I somehow find a solution, I'll let you know

Since the two of you have not solved the problem, it is okay to put here together to solve.
Because I have been contacted by quite a lot users who have upgraded the RC firmware by mistaken,
From the success stories of the fix. All the conditions that can increase the success rate are listed below.

why stucked in OSINIT?
Because FW5RC experimentally improved the read efficiency, however, we did not take into account that most users use SD cards that are not as fast as our sandisk red 32GB, so in the time limit set by the firmware, slower SD cards cannot load the full kernel in time, so they will get stuck in OSINT.

You must have an enough fast SD card, a genuine sandisk red 32GB is the best all we know. it can increase the success rate to load the recovery kernel.

DO NOT USE SDXC card. or older years small card.

best way is preparing two SD card. one sandisk red 32GB, one is other SD card which you can use on the EZ-Jr before(FW4). swap cards is faster on retry.

1. format both SD card with FAT32, 32KB file allocation unit size.
2. put recovery kernel on sandisk 32 GB SD
3. put 1.04 kernel on other SD
4. plug sandisk into EZ-Jr, power up, wait at OSINIT 10 seconds or more. shutdown
5. plug 1.04 kernel SD into EZ-Jr, power up.

if you can enter the kernel, it means firmware downgrade successful. if not, repeat step 4 and 5.

Other conditions: If it is a battery model, please ensure that the battery power is sufficient, if it is rechargeable model, please plug in the charging cable.

The Gameboy Pocket is a very finicky system. It's why I don't even bother modding them. Too many issues (and no good battery mods that I'm aware of).

The card I use is the SanDisk Red 32GB SDHC formatted to FAT32 using 32KB unit size, it was formatted without the "quick format" setting, and was formatted using the offical SD card company formatting tool, sadly I've tried the recovery tool too many times to count, I've previously only let it stay on the OSINIT screen for 10 seconds as recommended, but I've also let it sit on that screen for as long as an hour for good measure, and my flashcart is still not booting, it's such a strange issue, I have everything correct, the right firmware, the right SD card, and the recovery kernel, and yet it still doesn't work.

my theory of why the recovery tool isn't working is that like you mentioned, the cart is trying to load the kernel too fast for the SD card, is it possible that you could make a new recovery kernel that is smaller in size and loads faster? that might fix the issue.

As I said before. recovery kernel is used to invalidate the FW5RC on your card. then you can boot the kernel 1.04 normally.

If you put a SD with kernel 1.04 and still stuck at OSINIT. It means the invalidate process does not success. FW5RC still working, you know?

about the recovery kernel. it is only 16KB size. it contains all necessary codes.

I think the problem should be in the part that we did not notice(physical condition or operation) , like as before all your operations are done on SDXC.

I purchased an SDHC card today, I was using an SDXC card previously, but now I'm using the SanDisk red 32GB SDHC and I've used the recovery tool on the new card and it still doesn't work, so that's not the issue.

Eventhough the New 3DS XL is more powerful, I still feel like the DS Lite was a more polished system. It's a real shame that it never got an XL variant keeping the GBA slot. You'd have to go on AliExpress and buy an ML shell to give a DS phat the unofficial "DS Lite" treatment, and that's the best we'll ever get I'm afraid.

The phat model had amazingly loud speakers tho.

@Jayro, I don't see whats so special about the DS ML, its just a DS lite in a phat shell. At least the phat model had louder speakers, whereas the lite has a much better screen.

It's a DS Lite in a slightly bigger DS Lite shell.

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:

still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
