it means they can emulate sms too, because you know the hardware is very similar and the megadrive was retro-compatible

I'd use an emulator as well, genplus has perfect emulation of micromachines 2 (including saving your stats and player names, which even kega cannot do) and you can play up to 4 players

if you REALLY can't use anything but VC channels, try injecting the ROM into a WAD that is known to have SRAM support, maybe the game is hanging because of this.

I am currenty playing the game in GenPlus, but obviously it would be nice to have it right there on the system menu.

I think I will bit by bit give it a go at trying to inject it into all VC MD games.

Back in the day this was about the only game I ever played with my friends, all the others stayed in the box and we would play this for hours on end!

Not looked at GenPlus too closely yet, but guessing I couldnt set that up in a channel with some set variables so it loaded straight up into MM. Give it the feel of a VC game.

Well, I did inject a lot of games on Genesis, NES, SNES, N64, SMS, C64, MSX/ MSX2, PCE and for the nature of some games giving different errors, like black screen, freezing, garbled gfx and/ or sound...

I also tried Micro Machines 2 but no matter what, it refused to work.

Your best guess is to stick with emulators for that one and who knows, maybe it will see an official release

I'd been reading this post.

http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=164071

And found Dteyn research into the different emulators in the wads.

I did think that it might be worth following on from what he had done and listing the rest of the md wads to see if there were more emulators than the 12 he had managed to find.

Might make injection easier for others too, as at the moment I am looking at 73 different wads, when in reality there may only be 12 true emulators in these wads.

OK, I have the 73 MD (Pal) .wad's that exist so I will unpack and run get the md5sum for the emulator app inside them for all 73. This way I will be able to tell which of the 73 games have a unique emulator inside them. I will post my findings here. Not holding out a lot of hope for MM2, but worth a go, and might be of some help to others if it narrows down the search a bit.

It would definitively be interesting. What would be also interesting is the content of the config file for each of the VC releases (or only each of the different emulators)

in the SVN version, there is an option labeled "Auto Load ROM" or something like that: it will make the emulator automatically launch the first file in your history list.
There is also an option to automatically load saved state, like the VC does. This is not as practical as VC though because you cannot have multiple channels loading separated games.

Time consuming, but worth doing I would think.

Only stumbling block I have hit straight away is that I have just done a couple including Alien Soldier and Altered Beast which are on Dteyn's list and come up with a different md5sum.

Hmm.......Is this because he has done NTSC & I am doing the PAL releases?

Mine are definately all EU ones.

Well, have some actual work to do now, but will start on mine later.

I had only looked at 25 NTSC WADs in my research, I imagine there must be more emulators in the entire VC collection across regions. If I had the time I would go a step further and look into ALL Genesis WADs ever released by Nintendo, regardless of region. According to wikipedia, there are 73 PAL, 72 NTSC, and 90 NTSC-J for a total of 235 Genesis/Megadrive WADs. I would start by sorting the entire list of 235 and grabbing all the unique titles and looking at those, some of the Japanese games are likely to contain more of the unique emulator apps such as what MUSHA contains.

I had a few minutes so I put the list of games into TextPad and used a few macros to clean it up. Here's a list that should help narrow down which games are unique:

When I use the "VC Save Icon Injector/Save text Editor" to make MegaDrive/Genesis game icons, the Icons all appear in the top left of the icon box on the Wii, leaving a white boarder on the bottom and right edge of all the icons.

Am I missing something important to get the whole picture fitting the icon box?

I know this is a VERY old topic, but I have to ask.. I just got finished spending 4 hours hex editing a banner all the while knowing these tools exist(ed?) but nobody bothered to keep a functional mirror alive. Does anybody have one of those? :/

I am just getting into this, and the guide is fantastic. However, what I am trying to achieve is to Inject Micro Machines Turbo Tournament, and although I have tried a number of wads, I always get just a black screen when I try to start the game.

I have tried doing it with a hex editor and Auto Injectuwad Injector v3, but the same with both.

I don’t know if this is a case I am doing something wrong, or if nobody has had any success with Micro Machines TT.

Any help would be fantastic.

First I'm aware this post is two years old.

A lot of Electronic Arts games don't work because the games are set up to use a special checksum instead of the default one. This seems to cause them to not work. One game like "Road Rash" would not work when injected (would just load a red screen). Also if you edited the rom, it would fail to run (on any emulator for that matter). Of course, if you modified the rom to ignore the special checksum, you could edit the rom as much as you like and it works (sort of) if you inject it. Of course there is no sound and crashes during the gameplay, so the fix is useless for that game.

Disabling the special checksum in Micro Machines 2 might fix the problem. Although I got to figure out how for that game.

The Electronic Arts SNES versions of the game work fine however. This includes Micro Machines 2. Also injecting the rom into "Natsume Championship Wrestling" (has to be compressed into LZH8) will allow the use of four controllers and will run in PAL60 for Europe Wii owners. So it is not all bad news. :)

Don’t use that thing. It is best to replace the banner images and edit the text manually. See the guide for details.

I can easily upload the tools I use again. I’ll try and get that done tomorrow.

Awesome, thanks! I downloaded the one set I could find in the TurboGraphx topic, but that contained neither the CCF Tool, (although I did find a slightly less functional command line version on Zophars's Domain) nor the Wad packer referenced in the tutorial here. With these tools I can get as far as editing the save data but doing that causes the game to crash on startup. :P

EDIT: If it matters, I'm injecting Sonic 3 Complete (Romhack) into a Sonic 3D Blast wad.

I advise you keep of note of what these four characters are. Each Channel has its own ID and it’s important to use a custom one and not be the same as other Wii Channels, otherwise it will just overwrite that Channel with that same ID on your Wii when you install the custom WAD.

<b>Step 4:</b>
- Rename the “out.wad” to a name of your choice.
- Now go and install the WAD onto your Wii.
- Have fun! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
