My custom GBAtemp title contains "Fearless Testing Sina" That requires testing consoles. For the 3DS family this has been my O3DSXL. Two years ago the cables to the upper screen assembly started to show signs of wear: Opening the console normally would make the upper screen go full brightness regardless of the settings and eventually all I got was repeated violent shutoff when trying to play. That was reason enough to demote the thing from a gaming console to a testing dummy. It has gone through much abuse. Deleting system titles, modifying movable.sed, friendseed and so on and even 8046 Bootrom brick. I also did bad things hardware side every now and then.
A few weeks ago it seemed like the end. Unmistakable: It wouldn't turn on again because not finding either loudspeaker/3D cable and/or upper screen(backlight) *pop*. Replacing anything in the upper screen assembly is a nightmare. Both vital cables looked a bit torn so I decided to replace the LCD and the speaker/3D cable at the same time. Whoever came up with this mess should be punished.
Since I wasn't careful with this device and used and English learning program forcing me to write f a s t, the touch panel was also busted (normally I'm very careful with DS, but this one got all the abuse).
Why do I mention that I replaced so many parts? Because often people say: "Not worth the hassle! Just get another one." That is not gonna work in the long run. Those cables going to the upper screen will wear on all of them. Getting another one not having the issue means: Not having the issue yet. Upper LCD, speaker cable and touch panel cost about 35€ – and hours of work with my movement disorders.
Everything is connected again:
Not all screws are in, the upper screen lens is still missing, original protective foil still on the LCD. Reassembly in the next few days. But it works:
Thanks for reading.
I know the entry is written badly. I feel at the moment once again.
