The Door (Open Sesame!) – Rant

The door to the attic never worked normally since I can think. I know this thing only in a condition of jamming, seizing up and dragging. More than three decades ago it should have been replaced.

This morning:

Sinchen: *Pushes attic door*
Door: *Won't budge*
Sinchen: "Open up!" *pushes harder*
Door: "F… yourself!" *Still won't budge*
Sinchen: "You stupid piece of sh..! Open up!!" *slams against the door with the shoulder and some momentum*

Frame: *CRACK!!* "You won!" *breaks apart*

Sinchen: "Stupid a..hole!! To hell with this f…ing piece of dogsh..!! Son of a b*tch!! "

The frame is totally warped and my efforts made the cheap 1950s wood, which has seen dreadful heat and icy coldness countless times, crumble. With a sad *ting* this piece fell down:

A piece of the frame broke off while some other parts are really crumbly. In the long run this door has to be replaced, but I must be able to fully close it in winter (I've even insulated that old piece of sh..)

What a morning! Instead of breakfast I had to do a distress repair. A LOT of wood glue, some screws and several hundred bad words later it looks like this:

Hammered a bit against the frame. Pushing, pulling, cussing. The latter the most. Now the door can at least be opened and closed again (far from normal).

This is gonna be one of those days…

Wow, you have herculean strength though! 😱 But didn't you move with your mother to a new apartment? This is your previous home, isn't it? So if the door broke, it's no longer your problem, is it?🤔

What do you mean? It is applied science.
First of Newton's laws: A body remains at rest, or in motion at a constant speed in a straight line, unless acted upon by a force.
I'm just a big, fat ugly butter mountain. If I run against a normal room door, it breaks open – because my body stays in motion.

The wood is in bad condition. It got ≈80°C hot in summer and ≈-10°C in winter (no insulation on the attic) since the 1950s. You can still see the line where it cracked. The wood has not put up much of a fight

Apartment? No. Where should all of my stuff go in a small apartment? We are now living in my deceased grandma's house – now our own house.

Of course I know this door since I was a toddler. Played almost every Saturday on that attic. Still remember sliding down the stairs sitting on one part of a very, very old mattress. These mattress consisted of three parts so you could change which one was in the middle getting the most weight in bed balancing the wear. One part had exactly the right size for a kid to sit on and use the wooden stairs as toboggan run.
Can't do that anymore. I've no idea what would happen if I tried.

Extremely relatable, I've broken more things than I could remember for the same reason, and only often I was able to repair them once the damage was done.

It doesn't look to be damaged or twisted?
The metal piece is okay and was mounted with super short screws. As you see on the picture I used brand new (and longer) ones.
Problem is the complete door frame. Can't easily take a picture of this, but I'll try later.

When the door fucking hates you and breaks apart, you know today's gonna be shit.
Yes. Nothing more to say.

That is the way to to do it, as long as the holes are still tight and not loose to hold the screws.

I see..

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.

Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.

Free release can have loopholes where they still make money through ads
