Depressingly?? I think it sucks you think that way, because I think it's AMAZING someone is finally working on this game again..... And, well, how difficult was it learning to use the programs to modify the text in the game?
Oh, I say depressingly because I've had to work off the original patch, re-doing what Zarcon did >_<
Almost all the dialogue are in .TXT files, making it incredibly easy compared to what I've seen with other games. (I edit in Notepad++.) For some menu related stuff, I stumbled upon "crystaltile2" which lets me hex edit while seeing everything in Japanese. It took me awhile to learn what I was doing, but I can look at something in the game, draw it into Google Translate, then search the ROM in crystaltile2 for what file it's in, and make the changes. Slow and tedious, and I'm sure there are better ways, but I'm an amateur!
That patch ended up not having much for me to take from other than the medals (which weren't complete and needed spacing fixes) and a few lines from an NPC. But, whatever! I still appreciate it, and I've now added that to mine and we have another patch.
Changes from the original patch...
Item/Equipment fixes & cleanup (items display correctly, names are lengthened/improved)
Common dialog for saving, forging, dungeons, using the boat, mailbox, etc.
Equipment bonuses (translated/written differently from the v01a patch)
Common messages "obtained!" "found!" "has passed out...", etc.
Multiplayer menu descriptions, errors, etc. (90% done)
Medals (mostly from the v01a patch)
Some of the NPC dialogue (translated very liberally)
Skill names (as they weren't all translated) and their descriptions
Hot Spring/Ramen names and descriptions (but not the NPC dialogue)
Map icon names (when viewing the map, "Mint" "Dual Wield" "MP Regen", etc.)
Secret Spells (3rd option on the title screen) along with 16 passwords
Character creation options ("female" "cute" "fluffy", etc.)
Left unfinished...
Story dialogue & in-game images
Remaining NPC dialogue (Quests, Skill givers, Class upgrades, Hot Spring/Ramen, Tailor, etc.)
Character descriptions (Quest givers)
Item descriptions
Monster names
Personal changes...
"Fighter" is now "Knight", because it fits better! Rings were left untranslated and displayed as "???", so I tried translating them, but wasn't doing too well. Eventually I gave them names to match their bonus stat, "Sleep Ring", "Fire Ring", "Dizzy Ring", etc. and came up with names for their upgrades. Sleep Ring upgrades to Dream Ring, Slumber Ring, and finally HibernationRing, as an example. I also put "..." on a few popups, because the options are on screen and it seemed unnecessary, plus you had to wait for the "What do you want to make?" type text to finish before selecting anything.
Hopefully the 3 or 4 people interested in this game can enjoy it a bit more easily.. @_@..

Epic!! Thank you so, so, so, so much!! I wasn't planning on playing this game anytime soon, but I've actually been playing it a few times now after the 2nd patch was uncovered again, it's simplicity and addictiveness truly works. I mean I really am grateful you're doing this, DS is my favorite console, and finding and playing hidden gems like this is the absolute best gaming experience for me. It would be great if we could spread the word about these kinds of projects to more DS players.
But I mean no pressure, do what you can and have the time to do.
Edit: Yeah, I already have problems opening CrystalTile2, because Mfc71u.dll is apparently missing from my computer, I can already see it's going to be problematic and frustrating, and I have zero energy for complicated stuff like this right now... I'd be interested in translating Kaiju Busters Powered, or Element Hunters, but I dunno...
Well, nvm, I just had to place the .dll into the same folder with the program.

If only! Action RPG's with satisfying combat are almost impossible to find, and yet here's one on the DS nobody seems to care about. Looking back through this thread... there was actually someone who wanted to translate the story, but they were ignored :<
I've never heard of either, and lmao, Kumatanchi seemed hilarious. I've also Really Really (Shuffle), Haruhi and both Kimi Ni Todokes on my wanted list, because I really like all 3 of the series. The Rosario Vampire VN was translated about a year ago, and that's another series I liked.
I used the Google Translate app to take pictures while playing. It's not perfect, but it's still really helpful for getting a grasp of what's being said. ...Though I put English for the important parts, like Skill names, Class names and items needed. So it's still very playable. There's a -> Japanese guide <-, too. If you're planning on "upgrading" your class later in the game, you can check there to see the skill level caps that get raised. (All of which are initially capped at 10.)
Aaaand some tips (for anybody that might see this...)
1. When reaching Craftsman LV10 and choosing which to "master", you'll be locked out of making higher level equipment for whatever you don't choose. If you like playing dress up, go for Armor! Everything's a recolour of earlier equipment, but they're stronger and with different bonuses. 2. There's a quest where you need to give someone "Awesome Sauce". You can get this by pickling (giving an item to Granny Ume) "Yummy Sauce". 3. You can use L+Up/Down to quickly scroll lists. It only shows this on the Bestiary screen, but it works for most menus. 4. To officially beat the game, you need to get a lot of Yes/No questions exactly right. I wrote them down just in case...
No No No Yes No Yes Yes No Yes Yes (Yes?)
I'm unsure if there was an 11th, but it was definitely a Yes to end. (After the ending, check the boat for a new option.)

Oh yeah, I didn't think of that. I bought my first smartphone just a few weeks ago, it broke, now I'm waiting for them to send me a replacement, but alright, I guess the app will be useful for me elsewhere, too.
Maybe a longshot - but do you know the hashes associated with the rom the translations were done from? Attempts to patch using dumps matching those on no-intro results in checksum errors with the patcher.
