I'm expecting a lot of people to thank me for my awesome recommendations.
Got me hooked on the Persona series. P4: GE is still a prime example on how a remake should be released.

Anyway, I'm not sure if I'd have tried out several games if it weren't for friends. Probably Dragon's Dogma and Kingdoms of Amular: Reckoning and a lot more if I can think straight.

I have a few noteworthy examples.

- I only got in to the Harvest Moon series because my import guy back in Derby never got in the later Sonic Advance titles, so he offered me a deal. Check out this new game he had in, Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town, and if it sucked balls beyond all repair, he'd exchange it for Sonic Advance 3 when he finally got it in. I never took that game back, and now I follow the series like a stalking assassin.

- I got in to the Ace Combat series while hunting for Dancing Stage Fusion for the PS2 for my girlfriend at the time, the guy behind the counter pointed out Ace Combat Squadron Leader (from which I get my name) fresh in behind the counter and the rest was history.

- I was drawn in to the Final Fantasy series when a friend of my brother offered to loan my Final Fantasy 7 in exchange for me lending him my Pokemon Red. I still have that exact same copy of FF7 to this day. God knows what happened to Pokemon Red.

- I originally only started playing the Mass Effect series because my old man was being an arse hole about it. He'd been looking forward to playing it for months, one of the few games he ever got excited about, but he was also being a complete tool in every possible way, so I blasted through it over a weekend just to piss him off about finishing it way before he did and knowing how everything he was doing was going to play out.

To a degree, all the games I bought (or at least of the last 5 years or so) are because of recommendations. What people say about it speaks more to me than what reviewers do (though I do like to read/watch those), as en masse, these are kind of the only source I can believe to be objective.

More on detail: NSMBU, Trine 2 and sonic: all stars racing wouldn't have been bought if it wasn't for recommendations. Bit trip...: runner 2 probably neither (though it was the good metacritic that pulled me over the line).

And during the steam summer sale, it was often a combination of metacritic score, hearsay and the actual price. At the very least, Terraria was because of recommendations.

So many games to be honest, I never would have picked up Arkham Asylum or City without my friends recommendations. Also World of Warcraft, and EB store clerk recommended that too me, and its stole 4 years of my life, i shall never forgive him.

Yeah, good question; I dunno. I thought there was at least one good game in the series. Huh: I guess I know now why I didn't try any out.

Resident Evil 4 was amazingly good, The gamecube remakes of 1, 2 and Zero are good aswell

Resident Evil 4 was a damn good recommendation, so was the Final Fantasy series. I was told that Crisis Core was going to be a great game and lo and behold.

Guild was hounding me for ages about trying out a little game called Bastion. Absolutely worth every last penny and a whole lot more, let me tell you.

It still pains me that Rucks will never narrate my every action. It's just not fair, damn it!

If they can bring back dead singers by sampling their phonemes (to say nothing of it already having procedural audio generation), strap that to a pedometer with a compass, some biomonitors, a GPS with a copy of an address book/calendar. I suppose the only question is earpiece or loudspeaker by default. It would not be perfect but I figure it would still see you need to seek out treatment for priapism.

Likewise I think we just found the answer to the "what do I want to do with my life?" question that so bugged other people when I had no answer.

League of Legends. Would have never played it if it wasn't because of my friends who played it with me. They happily answered all of my noob questions and didn't leave me hanging when I did another noob mistake. If it wasn't for them, I would have dropped LoL after 5 games. Now, it's my most played game ever. Amazing stuff, so much fun

Actually Monster Hunter probably does want to be on there.

Tried it out, decided I could not stand the series and it bored me to death despite being composed to elements I normally really like.

Mass Effect 1. A little after 2 came out, I had some friends who were raving about the series and they couldn't stop talking about it. They kept strongly recommending the series to me, and I kept putting it off. Eventually I gave 1 a try, and enjoyed it enough to get 2, which is probably one of my favorite TPS of all time. Every now and again I'll replay the entire series, cuz they're good as fuck.

I tried some game called "Portal" like two or three years ago on the recommendation of a few people here. Was pretty good.

Picked up Spec Ops: The Line while it was on sale for like $10 at Best Buy because a few people said the story was pretty wicked. Haven't touched it yet though as I somehow got hooked on Forza Horizon (which makes little sense as I really don't touch racing games).

Finished Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning a week or so ago after I think someone recommended it here... Can't remember... Was a fun game though...

I tend not to touch any game my irl friends recommend though as they're all bro-gamers and only play CoD and sports games. Usually I recommend things to them (like Singularity, KoA, Borderlands, Dishonored, The Witcher...) only to find they played them for a half hour and never touched them again... Kind of sad, actually.

Touch it  Touch it like it's your long lost lover whom you thought was lost at sea but discovered was rescued on an island and lost her memory but it came back and she wants to ride your dick all night long

Lol, but yeah, Spec Ops: The Line has a great story, I would definitely recommend it.

Besides Pokemon, pretty much most of my favorite game series other people have told me about.

My first ex got me into Final Fantasy VII which I play once a year, Persona series (notably 3 and 4) and Kingdom Hearts. A childhood friend of mine had KH way before, but I had no idea how awesome it was, and it took my first ex to persuade me to play it.

My brother got me hooked on Mario Party and my best friend from college forced me to play Ocarina of Time. I love him for that <3 (I grew up with Playstation, and didn't own an N64. Me and console Zelda games don't agree with each other, the controls don't feel right to me, but the 3DS made OoT possible.)
