I will make/start this quick thread for spread the love i have to old versions of the frontend for Libretro cores on the Nintendo Wii, the RetroArch Wii.
I will bring the latest updates of the emulator cores ported to Libretro, but without the stupid issues present in latest RA Wii versions.

All these cores were compiled using RetroArch Wii v1.7.9, unless specified.
  • NO MORE annoying crackling sound issues!
  • Wiimote-only compatible, along with compatibility with Wii Classic Controller as well as the Nintendo GameCube controller. Latest RA Wii only forces to use Wii Classic Controller/GCN controller.
Incomplete list:
Greetings to all.

I have my own build from different versions of RA and all the cores I chose doesn't have crackling sound, albeit, Snes9x cores are kinda slow with some FX2 chip games, and become even slower with Overlays/Filters... this issue is not as strong with newer Snes9x cores (if I recall correctly, RA 1.11/1.12/1.13/1.14), has improved Snes9x performance but they all have crackling sound.

I did a quick research and I'm wanting to make my own Cores just to test some things.

But this is nice, I'm sure many folks will appreciate your contributions.
May I suggest you to try 1.9.0 and prior? Again, according to my own tests the sound issues appears from 1.9.1 onwards.
1.7.X is too old.

Some more additional cores, not really useful but interesting:

- Virtual Jaguar - Atari Jaguar (http://github.com/saulfabregwiivc/VirtualJaguar-Libretro-Wii). WARNING: VERY SLOW.
- Geolith - SNK NeoGeo MVS/AES (http://github.com/libretro/geolith-libretro). WARNING: VERY SLOW.
- fixGB - Nintendo Game Boy/Game Boy Color (http://github.com/libretro/fixGB).
- Potator - Watara SuperVision (http://github.com/libretro/potator).
- PokeMini - Nintendo Pokémon Mini (http://github.com/libretro/PokeMini).

Also some alternate versions of some cores:

- Snes9x 2002 (Snes9x 1.39 / PocketSNES) - Super Nintendo (http://github.com/libretro/snes9x2002).
- Snes9x 2005 Plus (Snes9x 1.43 with faster Blargg APU / CAT SFC Plus) - Super Nintendo (http://github.com/libretro/snes9x2005).
- Snes9x 2010 (Snes9x 1.52+ / Snes9x Next) - Super Nintendo (http://github.com/libretro/snes9x2010).

Removed Snes9x 2005 from here since i will move it to their respective RA Wii 1.7.6 recompiled Snes9x cores.

@Disorarara

I have tested GameCube controlls and they are indeed working 100%. End user is required to go into Input settings and activate Left Analog and set the Left Analog up, down, left, right corresponding.

This is the way older versions of RA Wii required input setup. As i told Saul, it is an extra step in setup but it was/is much more stable (Just Works). Newer versions of RA Wii input have been completely ruined or mangled for no apparent reason other than neglect.

- Geolith - NeoGeo MVS/AES, http://github.com/libretro/geolith-libretro (some people reported issues on RA Wii 1.7.9)
- GW-Libretro - Nintendo Game & Watch, https://github.com/libretro/blueMSX-libretro (unstable on RA Wii 1.7.9)
- MAME 2000 / MAME 0.37b5 - Arcade, https://github.com/libretro/mame2000-libretro
- blueMSX - Microsoft MSX/MSX2, https://github.com/libretro/blueMSX-libretro (doesn't work on RA Wii 1.7.9)
- fMSX - Microsoft MSX/MSX2, https://github.com/libretro/fMSX-libretro (doesn't work on RA Wii 1.7.9)

Do you know if gamecube controller settings will be applied correctly on first boot if an appropriate cfg file is included? If so, that might be worth doing with this particular release.

I think some the RA plugins I use are of similar vintage, and they definitely support gamecube controller without me having manually done input setup. I think I have old versions of the plugin pack somewhere (v5/v6?), just let me know if I can do anything to help.

I am not positive but think that would work similar to having input remap already in place.

@SaulFabre Wow, what a great work. I wonder, for a full installation you need a retroarch dol, but where you get 1.7.9 or 1.76 one?

On the official retroarch downloads today only go back to 1.9.0 and latest is 1.17.0
*clear cough*
Post automatically merged:

@Disorarara built two PCSX-ReARMed cores, one with P.E.Op.S. and other with Una-i.

Yes, basically an updated retro RA set. One thing RA-Hexaeco will always have is proper bezel/overlays support and it always keeps me coming back.
Unfortunately i can't get RA-HEXAeco to compile it properly.
Same with nexus79's myra1002 (modified RA Wii 1.0.0.2 pretty well optimized for Wii).

For now i will only bring cores in RA Wii 1.7.6-1.7.9.

Mostly for big purchases, I want it in my hands before I pay. Like a tv, I trust picking it up myself, before I'd trust it being sent thru mail/delivery. (Broken screen, etc) But yea if I can order online, then pickup at store is ok, but not all places offer that.

Thing is, if you break it driving back to your house, it's your fault. But if the delivery driver damages it, it's not your fault.
